there are environmentally friendly slug pellets (not too friendly for slugs though :rotfl::rotfl:)0

I don't get many slugs nowadays due to a very large bad tempered hedgehog who passes through my garden. I know he is bad tempered cos he got stuck behind a box on the bottom of the bookcase in the living room a couple of years ago and scared the bejeezus out of us. Goodness knows how or when he sneaked in. Anyway have noticed this week a lot of slugs and have had great pleasure in lobbing them in the chicken run - haaa got you blighters back now!!:TClearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -

I use to have a frog in garden but he lost his temper when I found him buried in a pot he made such a loud noiseI don't get many slugs nowadays due to a very large bad tempered hedgehog who passes through my garden. Went on slug patrol and found about 70 of them. Now mainly slugs. In the beginning it was mainly snails so at least I'm having an effect. Went back out this morning and found another three.0

My daughter has some ducks, she lets them out into the garden spring to hoover up all the slugs, which they do readily. I assume chickens would do the same
Of course one needs a reasonable sized garden etc to do this, which is why I use slug pelletsWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0 -
I've got some in one of my beds where the lettuces are, I have put down my cat litter like slug pellets, but it's a losing battle, these little blighters are about the size of plump grains of rice and are nestling in the crinkles of the lettuce leaves, out of reach of the pellets, and are too small to hunt down by torchlight.0

When I first started to garden I went out nightly for a couple of weeks, sometimes 2 or 3 times (would collect too many to count). I then went out every 2 or 3 days for the rest of the summer (all on top of standard preventative measures). It's a hard slog, but because they are so productive you really have to make a big dent in them to effectively cut down numbers. The next year was much easier as I had cleared so many, and then I started using Nematodes. Unfortunately dodgy health meant I left the garden for a couple of years and I'm back to the start :-(
But, you must kill them I'm afraid - all of you who just throw them over a wall are just delaying the inevitable as they will probably come back. I don't know about slugs, but marked snails have been noted to travel surprisingly far (sorry, I can't remember exactly how far, but it was a long way!!).0 -
During the day my garden is alive with the sound of thrushes smashing snails to bits on the concrete path.
It's music to my ears.

I collect them up and give them to my chickens!! Unfortunately because I do I can't use slug pellets. I do use crushed egg shell around the plants to try and deter them though.0
