Return Address

Daft question, but how do I get a seller's address to return an item??

I bought an item of clothing, but when it arrived, it was 2 sizes smaller than they said it was. (So FAR too small for something that's meant to fit quite tight!)

So far the seller has been un-cooperatative, initially saying "sorry no refund, was selling for a friend". Dispute opened last Monday (so over 7 days ago now), and they've finally responded saying they won't refund any postage.

They seem to be suggesting that I should sell it on, and they'll refund the difference in price, but given the small size, it's only worth about £25 (not the £70+ paid), and I think pursuing them for the difference isn't enforcable, so not an option I'm willing to take.

Should I phone ebay to get their thoughts on it to see if I can now send it back? Will ebay give me the return address given the seller won't? (number to call??)

Am annoyed enough already at uselessness of seller, but return postage will be almost £9 due to weight (almost 2kg) and value (so special delivery), so I'll end up out of pocket.

(£9 = 4 pints!!)

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Raise a dispute with ebay or paypal goods not as described, seller refuses to give contact details to return.

You will get the money back you paid, As for return postage, You may lose that.

    1st class recorded for 2kg = £7.34 Insured for £41

Special Delivery next day £8.65 Insured for £500

Just make sure you get proof of delivery, They might say they have not received it back.

Open a SNAD dispute which you will win. Ok you will be £9 out of pocket when you send it back but better than being £70 out of pocket with a tiny dress.
Make sure you send it Special Delivery for guaranteed tracking.

You can get the sellers contact details from the advanced search page which the link is at the top of most ebay pages. Might also be worth giving the seller a phone call.

Open a paypal dispute, SNAD, you will get your payment & outward p&P back. You'll just have to cover the cost to post back make sure it's sent online tracked. Don't post back though until paypal tell to you. Keep the receipt until you have the refund. Don't cancel the dispute if the seller offers to refund once you've closed as you can't then reopen it & you'll lose your money, you also won't be able to leave appropriate feedback.
    Good luck

Right, have requested contact details. How long does it normally take to get the email, as I really want to get them in the post (special delivery) tomorrow?

I'm not convinced this seller actually gets the whole ebay process, as the latest message says that he didn't say he wouldn't refund (er... not true, and he sent the message via ebay!) and that he can't give a refund until at least July as he has given money to friend he sold item for!

I never seem to get the emails for some reason, but they are supposed to be instant. *However from memory I think they only contain the phone number and town, but I haven't done it for such a long time.

I would open up a Paypal dispute, if you haven't one open. I am more a seller than buyer, so don't know at what stage the address of the seller should appear (if ever) but it would make sense that it would be given to you in a dispute involving a return.

As others have said, use a courier or SD to ensure adequate tracking/insurance. If the item is refused, it will still count in your favour.

Update the dispute with the tracking the minute you have it.

If you haven't opened a dispute, I would opt for a PP rather than Ebay one, I think the process is much more straightforward in PP.

Let us know how you get on. I would be interested to know when the 'address' appears.

You won't get their address from submitting the form for their contact details.

All you'll get is the town, area and phone number.

Did they have the measurements for the item of clothing on the listing? Not all makes are the same, so if you didn't ask, then I can't see how the seller should be liable to refund.

An ebay dispute was opened last monday (so over a week ago), after I got an email from seller saying they can't refund as they sold item for someone else.

I phoned ebay this evening, who say I have to wait four more days until the deadline (so 12 days in total?? - seems a long time), then I can escalate the claim and they can intervene. In the mean time, I've replied to the seller saying I'd like to return item, so can I have the return address. Not convinced they'll reply though...

Oddly, the item had the brand sizing on the label (rather than a UK size), and if the seller had listed this, then the UK size would have been quite obvious, and they wouldn't have got much money for it (as it would have been way to small for most people to be interested!). Don't know why they just didn't write the brand size rather than wrongly guessing the UK size!

    Update

Escalated dispute on 11th day after seller wouldn't supply return address. Ebay took a whole 17 minutes to find in my favour, and gave me the address to return the item to.

I sent it special delivery, so it should arrive Monday. When the tracking is showing as delivered, do I just contact ebay again to get the refund?

Ebay also gave me a £5 voucher, which I presume is to cover return postage costs, so only £3.85 out of pocket rather than £8.75.
