https://www.growveg.info is good as each query has its own place, under a certain veg or plant rather than most forums that just repeat the same questions every year. More of a store cupboard of useful info.

eg. today I wrote that I picked my first Mangetout of 2010 on 8th June 2010, entered it under the mangetout section, but reading upwards found I had a first harvest on 3rd June 2009; so it it very useful as all veg species have their own area. Much easier for reference. Give it a whirl, free to register and a great little community.

Ill second this site, its excellent, my username on there is the same as on here, its very friendly so come and join us :)

    .

Looks good.... how will we find time to get outside though????
  • I would like to second the GrapeVine.. lovely peeps & good advice.

I also really enjoy watching 'Claire's Allotment' on YouTube. Just one girl on her allotment, broken up in to bitesize programmes about individual veg. I got really enthusiastic about growing veg after watching them last year. You'll need to set aside a whole afternoon, even a day to watch them though.. and a big pot of tea.

I have to say that like the OP, when I first started I registered on LOADS of different gardening forums. One by one I stopped using them for lack of interest etc and I now swear by one that has been mentioned already by a couple of people on here.

    https://www.growveg.info

I didnt have a clue when I first started, (probably still dont:rotfl:) but the members on that forum really were a huge help in getting me starting, and have no problems with sharing their experiences and advice. I found their help so much more valuable than just reading books, as you get more personalised information in accordance with where you live rather than general vague info for all of the UK.

On top of that, theres an extra bonus as we have sections on just about any other subject you can think of, as well as quizzes, seed swaps etc, oh and a secret santa every year which we wait impatiently for again all through the year:T

Have a wander over, you wont regret it. I know I dont!!

try this one but it is a forum... http://www.allotments4all.co.uk/smf/index.php

but in my opinion you will never find any one site that gives you all the answer, forums are best because there are lots of people to ask, websites that just record information on webpages are limited because you tend to just get one or twos people view/opinion written down.

I agree with cjb02 in that forums give a wider range of replies than any 'authored' website. Most forums, however, lack the structure to help users find threads more than a few weeks/days old - http://www.growveg.info solves that particular problem with a comprehensive range of sub-forums for individual veg / fruit / flower varieties. This avoids the usual 'tired' replies and even repeated questions get fresh and friendly answers.

The pictures are superb too - even the ones of pests who want to eat your stuff before it is ready. :naughty:
