Hi all
My child is now aged 10 last March. And I had attend interview at jobcentre as they say to me that I had to change to jobseeker allowance income-based and no longer on income support. They will transfer me over to JSA IB within 8 weeks time due in August 2nd. I had explain everything to jobcentre that I had a son who is now 10 years old and I had upbringing him for 10 years on my own due to his mother had died at the birth and left me in difficulties time. However, we had income support for the last 10 years now and I had booked a holiday to Italy with my son as my parents paid for us to enjoy the holiday and my son deserved it as he been through hard time so do I, but we had booked holiday last year for this year to Italy in July 31st for 2 weeks and not back until August 14th. Because that time, when I was booked for holiday as income support do not count any holiday allow in uk or abroad. But the jobcentre lady is so cheeky ask me to cancel the holiday and must have holiday in UK because my JSA IB in August 2nd rules that I am not allow to go abroad because of seeking for job. I had a rows and ask them why August 2nd ? Why can't they move it to Aug 15th after my holiday to make it easier for me and my son. I explain to them about my son lost her mother during birth and why we both don't deserved a holiday for the first time for 10 years !!!! only once in 10 years !!!! They say to me sorry that the way it had changing in your benefits and you are no longer as a single parent on sole ground rule because your child is now 10.
I told them well I am not cancel my holiday because my parents paid for us, why should we cancel it and waste my parents money (£1700 for both of us) and they seem don't care and not interesting, and ask me to sign on in August 2nd but I couldn't sign in because I am in abroad until Aug 14th. She then say to me well, you will lose your benefits and it will delaying your JSA IB up to 8-12 weeks before you get your next money if you don't sign in 2nd Aug.
That is disgusting! Not fair to my son look forward to the holiday. I had a row and accused them for ruined us both. I hate this UK government as they had no idea the hell we been go through and suffered our times up and down.
I am going to see my MP and see what he had to say about it because my holiday was booked in that time under my income support and how dare jobcentre ask me to cancel my holiday due to JSA IB change over!

That is not disgusting, it's the rules and it's unfair of you to take your frustration out on staff who are only doing their job and applying these rules. You can go on holiday and lose your benefit or you can keep your benefit and lose the holiday - your choice.
Quite honestly if you hate "this UK" so much you have a fairly obvious alternative...0 -
Surely JSA IB are allow to have a holiday a maximum of 2 weeks per year in uk or abroad ?? I will seek citizens advice bureau about this.0

Why book a holiday when you knew you'd be on JSA?

If you are on Job Seekers Allowance (hint is in the name of the benefit!)...doesnt that mean you MUST be available and looking for work. If you're abroad, this isnt possible!
If your child is 10 and you are able bodied, then why shouldnt you be looking for work/working to support your child and move from IS to JSA????
We've all got sad stories to tell with ups and downs but we cant use them as excuses.
I would LOVE to hear what your MP says!

Only in the UK, I believe, as this enables you to continue jobhunting and to return quickly should you get an interview or the offer of a job.Surely JSA IB are allow to have a holiday a maximum of 2 weeks per year in uk or abroad ?? I will seek citizens advice bureau about this.
It would seem that you are not entitled to IS after 02/08, and cannot claim JSA(IB) until you return on 15/08. I would agree that is daft, as their selection of the end-date of IS seems completely arbitrary, why the 2nd? But as regards to not going abroad, dems de rules. In order to avoid their threatened 6-8 week delay, can you try bypassing their "automated" switch from one benefit to another, and instead manually sign off IS on the 2nd, making an appointment to start your JSA claim on the first day after your return?:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I had no money in the last 10 years until my parents paid for our holiday last year and that was booked in for this year holiday. What do you expect me to do for my son eh ?
It not all about myself, it a proper holiday for my son! and he deserved one after 10 years because he was too young to go abroad in the hot weather!
Don't even think I am making this as a excuse to delaying JSA IB because I was booked (that time I was on income support)
Job centre should knew this and ruined us in perfect timing before we go on holiday!0 -

No it can't because of school terms and there will be extra charged to changing flight. Why should I changing it ? the JSA IB should be changing date not me or my son.0 -

I did ask them for that, but they can't do this way. They had to do by their rules and benefits manager told me TOUGH LUCK.0 -
If your parents have paid £1700 for the holiday, could they not give you the money you will loose when taking the holiday? To repeat what others have said, requires education, to challenge it,requires brains!FEB GC/DIESEL £200/4 WEEKS0
