If you do change the cambelt then yes, it's a good idea to change the water pump at the same time - the reason being, the actual parts are quite cheap, it's the labour that costs as it involves quite a bit of dismantling, so you may as well change the pump while you're there.
However, you're looking at a fair amount of dosh for a cambelt change - I don't know for your car specifically, but it's usually around the £200 - £300 mark. So I'd question whether it's worth it if you're planning to run it into the ground. You may be lucky and get another 30,000 miles out of the cambelt, or it could snap tomorrow. "Do ya feel lucky, punk ?" :-)
I managed to get them down to £180 for the cambelt and am being quoted an extra £60 for the water pump, which is quite steep but not outrageous.
I'm just not sure what to do with the Head Gasket, as it's so expensive to replace but atm it's doesn't really show any signs of HGF (they haven't clarified what the leaking entails yet). I'm sure whether to pay the £200-odd extra for it and the cam-belt, or leave it all.0 -
Don't bother with the cambelt. They do fail fairly randomly - it could last 1 week or another 10 years. I don't think they actually fail that often, it's just that if they do, the cost can be considerable. I had one go on the motorway at 70mph or so which just gave a little metallic tinkling, dash lights all came on and coasted to a halt. Engine destroyed though.0

If you're going to run it into the ground with out doing the head gasket, no point doing the cambelt either. If it blows up use it as a skip...:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

Rovers are known for head gasket failures, I personally have never had a Rover and never would.
When I saw one for sale cheap a few years back and I was going to buy, I looked up online in Google about Rovers etc and it scared me the amount of threads and websites I read all over the internet that the head gasket goes.
Not sure what there like now but I don't like them!0 -
as there isn't combustion gases involved with the head gasket I'd be tempted to throw some k-seal in and drive it till it dies
I'm not sure I can see the point of changing a cam belt or spending 25-50% of the value of the car on any other preventative maintenance, might be different for a repair
It's a gamble and I wish you luck0 -
Just drive it til it dies and then scrap it and buy a new one.
Who knows it may even surprise you how long it lasts.
