You took the name 'Ryanair' and added 'unf' between 'Ryan' and 'Air' to make the word 'Ryanunfair', presumably to create a username that implies that you feel that Ryanair are unfair.

This is clearly about a situation where overbooking has occurred, and passengers are offered compensation in return for surrendering their right to travel, not where a flight is cancelled.

    Absolute rubbish.

Please please take Ryanair to court, and let us know when the case will be heard. I could do with a laugh! :rotfl:

Or 385 Euros for a family a day. At this rate I can only think they chose an expensive hotel.

or were fleeced - I heard a few tales of some victims be charged higher than normal for hotel accomodation, and it rather depends where this family were as well.

The 'expense' could include other things like taxis as well. The only thing I don't think Ryanair should have to fork out for is the Laptop, and any phone calls other expenses relating to his business, while this is unfortunate, it's not part of the immediate needs of the family while stuck abroad obligation.

I do believe if Ryanair wanted to avoid heavy compensation claims, they should have taken the responsibility of finding accomodation etc for their customers, rather than leaving it to the customer to find somewhere.

Thank you all for your comments, a most intresting array of opionions.

I have today recieved the next stage of thee claim proccess.

The link does not work and is going to take another 8 weeks to complete.

It does seem like Ryanair are trying to put of people from claiming.

As I cannot post links on this site i have had to modify it so it will post. But I am sure you get the idea.

I will now call Ryan air to find out what the real link is and re-post it once I have it.

    Dear Customer

I refer to our recent correspondence regarding your disrupted flight(s).

We now invite you to submit your reasonable expense claim along with the original receipted expenses for hotel accommodation food and transport to/from the airport which were incurred whilst waiting to travel on the next operating Ryanair flight.

To access the form click on the below weblink and complete the Expenses Claim Form online, then print and sign the form and return to the address provided, ensuring that you attach all the original VAT registered receipts to support the claim. On receipt of the required documentation, we will work with our insurance assessment team to process valid reasonable claims.

    Yours sincerely,

  • Good luck. I have also just received an email asking me to fill in the online form, I faxed a letter and receipts to them when I managed to get back from spain after a 7 day delay back in April, but like yourself the link doesn't work. I will keep trying the link.

    Wait, hold on a minute.

You probably paid about £2.50 for a flight part-way around the world and you didn't get first-class exceptional service?

TBH, I think it's a total farce that the airlines are expected to foot the cost of these bills. Could you not have taken a ferry home? I just can't fathom that your business was going to go bust, you had to run up all of these extra costs, yet you couldn't be bothered to re-arrange alternative transport. I guess you just enjoyed the extended holiday but now realise you can't afford it.

The cost is irrelivant no matter how much you pay or something a contract is entered into and you expect it to be honoured, with repect. what yu dont understand is that Ryanair is actually the same price as all the other airlines, they just charge more for other services like £50.00 to pay by credit card for instance, or £5 per head per person to check in online. they mak etheir money not for the flights but from the extras that you have to buy. So dont be fooled by their apparent cheap business model, that is for marketing.

As for getting hme a different way, we tryed that as well.

Other airlines, not possible as UK airspace was grounded.

Train to a ferry port. depending on the port we went to it was anything from a 26 hours to 72 hour journey. then a 48 hour wait for a ticket to get on the ferry as they were fully booked with their own existing customers. The ferry compaines turned off the telephones and stopped taking web bookings. you had to get in a que to get a ticket and with 3 young children this would have been insane to atempt.
car hire was not possible as you cannot take a care from Portugal to England as it has to be returned to the origin of hire. Also the same problem of the ferries still existed.

In all I spent the first 2 days of the disruption on the telephone trying to arrange a way home, that 2 days was the last 2 days of my existing holiday, so great I ended up having a 5 day break.

You probably dont realise but even Ryanair closed their telephone lines during this period and would not help any other their customers. and directed you to a £1.00 per minute phone number for assistance. I spent £30.00 on calling Ryanair during the problem time that they are refusing to refund.

I guess you have never had your own business otherwise you would know that taking unsolicited time away from it can cause great expense and problems. I am in the service industry and time is our commodity.

And as for enjoying the extra Holiday, no it was not enjoyable, we were in a 4 bedroom Villa the week before, then we went to a 2 bedroom hotel for 5 of us. There was nothing for the kids to do.
We were spending money we did not have. And I had to work remotly during the day. Not really my idea of enjoyable.

As as for the airline footing the bill, they have insurance against the EU261 claims. They could have reduced their cost libillity by assisting passengers rather than leaving them to find their own accomodation and food.

I have never been in this situation before and In short I did the best for my family, with the resources at my disposal without any help from the airline, now it is time for them to re-imburse us.

I have now spoken to RyanAir at the head office on telphone number 0035318121212 option 0 for the operator.

As usual they know nothing, however I am apparently the first person to have called with the problem, of the link not working.

They are going to look into it and call me back.

Guinless maybe you could call them as well and say that the link is not working. Then they could tell you that you are also the first.

They tried to fob me off by saying it is in a different building that they don't have a telephone number for.

The link is now working and is an online replica of the first form I filled in and faxed 2 months ago.
