Still paying 3 unused Carphone Warehouse Insurance Policies dating from 2005!
My wife has just spotted a payment to Carphone Warehouse on her bank statement for £7.99. We discovered that this is for a phone she cancelled over a year ago. On further inspection of statements we found that she has also been paying £10 a month since 2005 for another phone she no longer has, and yet another £10 a month since 2006 for yet another phone she no longer has.
This was of course very sloppy and am sure you seasoned moneysavers will be as horrified as i was that this was not picked up before now from bank statements.
Will certainly be discussing this with Trading Standards but don't know if we will have much chance of reclaiming any of this. I have a few questions on which i would appreciate any comments:
My wife has never at any point over the past five years recieved any statement, renewal notice or any contact whatsoever from CPW about these policies. Isn't this very poor practice on their part and in fact quite dishonest? What five year old phone could justify a cost of £120 per year to insure?
All phones except her last one were purchased from CPW. Each time they cancelled her old phone contract and sold her a new one along with a new insurance contract. Didn't they have moral obligation to advise her that cancelling the phone contract didn't automatically cancel the insurance contract (suddenly a different department once the policy has been sold and all that)?

They're two separate contracts, why should they give you any money back?
You missed it lots if times as you pointed out. The contract was not fixed term like the phone, you needed to opt out of it.War does not determine who is right - only who is left.0 -
Anyone not checking bank statements when dealing with companies like CPW only have themselves to blame!0
