Here are the TICs (tourist information centres) in Cornwall:

    http://www.visitcornwall.com/site/explore-cornwall/visitor-information/tourist-information-centres

We find that Truro is the best stocked for information leaflets and Lostwithiel has lots of local info. However, all have friendly and helpful staff. You can get info before you go - very useful for planning.

Go to your local library now and borrow any books and OS maps on Cornwall - even if a bit out of date they can give some useful ideas.

If you like birdwatching, try Stithians Lake (the closest to Redruth) or any of the waters owned by South West Water with leisure facilities. There's a leaflet for these as well.

Walking in Cornwall - that's a massive subject. The world (well, the county) is your oyster.

    Enjoy!

We took a 5 day holiday in Torquay about a month ago..........it was a coach holiday with www.the coach holiday com
First time we'd had a coach trip and it was brilliant.........entrance to Eden Project paid for, trip to Buckfast Abbey, hotel was superb as was the food.............price was £149 each and it made a change for OH not to drive everywhere and wonder where to park etc.
Not everyone's cup of tea but OH had been ill so driving the distance would have been out of the question.
    Hope that helps
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Thanks for all the advice. I can't wait to visit, I could just do with some foodie recommendations now.

I need somewhere nice to go for my birthday, was going to visit Rick Stein but it was fully booked (and too expensive really!) so any suggestions?

For those that wanted the advice on accommodation, I've PM'd you all. Although if you want to see where we're staying it's called Morthana Holidays.

    Thanks again everyone

  • What sort of food do you like? There are some great restaurants in Truro. Chantek - asian/Thai fusion, Saffron (my fave) - french type, Xen bar for authentic chinese.
Maybe wait until you are here and get some word of mouth recommendations?
I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to break :D

The one thing you can't MSE on in Cornwall is parking charges - take lots of change to feed the machines. £3+ every time you visit somewhere, regardless of how long you may stay, soon gets to you.

For anyone visiting Padstow in Cornwall, if the quaint little quayside isn't enough why not head along the quay and up the slipway to "Chapel Stile" it's where the war memorial is and has the most breath taking view across the whole bay, a huge long grassy area Ideal for picnics with families, I used to go as a child as my great grandmother owned the house that is now "Rick Stein's tea room" "Walton House", I hadn't been to Padstow for 30 odd years and a few weekends ago I packed up my 2 little girls and a lovely picnic and headed for Pastow's "Chapel Stile", it was an unforgettable experience, which brought back so many childhood memories and best of all was free but for the cost of the food for the picnic.
Also anyone wanting to visit attractions in the cornwall area, the local tesco's in carbisbay(St Ives) and many other places have those little area's that offer flyers for the local places of interest,
Look out for the brown coloured booklet with the heading "for one and all" inside the centre 2 pages are packed with money off vouchers, also on a Thursday the local paper "The Cornishman/ West Briton" normally has money off vouchers, they are sold in all the shops and supermarkets here in Cornwall.
I am a St Ives girl so if anyone would like some advice or help with anything, give me a shout xxx

Why not dangle your legs over the quay side with some of Rick Steins fish and chips on your lap.
