Hi everyone
My fiance and I are off to Redruth in Cornwall in a few weeks and wonder if anyone had any MSE tips.
We've got a free ticket to the Eden Project via Tesco Clubcard points but any other suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Vanessa

Go into a tourist information place and get a booklet called For One and All, it has lots of coupons in for money off entrance to places and things.0

The counter of Boots has 2 for 1 tickets to The Seal Sanctuary at the moment.
Redruth is an interesting choice for a holiday destination. Just wondering if there was a special reason why?"I, on the other hand, am a fully rounded human being with a degree from the university of life, a diploma from the school of hard knocks, and three gold stars from the kindergarten of getting the sh*t kicked out of me." ~ Capt. E. Blackadder0 -
Get the local paper - The West Briton - when you are here. There is normally a page of special offers in there such as entry for 3 for the price of two or children free.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0

Thanks for all your help. I'll print it all off so I don't forget.
Sarsie - The reason for Redruth is pure and simply cost, we managed to find a little cottage for just under £200 a week, about half the price of anywhere else and luckily for me, my partner doesn't mind driving about ;-)0 -
you have to drive about in Cornwall anyway to get anywhere. We stayed next door in Porthtowan.
Falmouth is lovely, try and visit the boat museum as its fab! We all loved it and spent hours threre. Not sure of the price as we got free entry with a boat ride. Falmouth is good too for shops.
Seal santuary is ok but not very money saving when you cant spend alot of time there. Our childen were getting board which isnt normally like them.0 -

Free things in Cornwall in that general area:
- Penzance: walking around the town. Find the Admiral Benbow pub , it's lovely and there's a smugglers tunnel under it (you can't go in there though), pub's full of old memorabilia recovered from sunken wrecks. http://www.flickr.com/photos/john47kent/4341146137/
- Marazion TR17 0EF: Walk across to St Michaels Mount when the tide's out. Free to walk, boat costs money if you go when the tide's in or coming in. http://www.stmichaelsmount.co.uk/
- Cornish Gold Centre, TR16 4HN. Big car park, completely free to park and walk round. Quite a few quirky things to see. Say 1.5-2 hours if you amble.
If I think of/find any more, I'll update this list.0 -
If you are a member of the NT, thee are lot of beautiful gardens to explore that often have events on for kids. Am thinking particulaly of Trelissick and Glendurgan. There's Zoo and aquarium at Newquay, Perranporth and St Agnes have wonderful beaches and boat rides from Falmouth to Truro or vice versa. Bodmin jail and surrounding moors. Day trip on the Scillonian to Scillies - although probably something to be budgetted for. Fishing trips from Penzance. Flambards theme park, Lost Gardens of Heligan. Too many things for just a week!
ETA Maritime Museum at Falmouth, St Ives - Tate etc - get a train from Lelant Saltings to avoid trying to park the car at St Ives.I must go, I have lives to ruin and hearts to breakMy attitude depends on my Latitude 49° 55' 0" N 6° 19' 60 W0 -
Redruth is a good place to stay if you're not fussed about being right by the sea. You have easy access to the main routes through Cornwall.
I assume you don't have kids to keep entertained. That makes it a lot cheaper! You can spend hours in Cornwall just wandering along beaches and cliff tops. Like SuzyWuzy we stayed near Porthtowan last year. I can recommend the area - it has some fab beaches. Try the walk up to St Agnes beacon for spectacular(tho windy!) views.
Plus when you've worked up a healthy appetite there are plenty of pubs which serve good value bar meals. If you like gardens Heligan (£10.00 per adult) and Trebah(£7.50) are worth a visit.
You'll love it wherever you go and if you get the weather it's fantastic.0 -
Look out for a King Harry guide, usually available where ever touristy leaflets are - produced by the people behind the King Harry ferry, this guide is packed full of ideas of places to visit and places to eat - we always find it really usefulDFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0
