Fox menace

Is there a problem with fox menace in South Ruislip and adjacent areas? Which areas in London have the most problem with foxes? Recent news items are very disturbing and many people seem to have a lot of foxes coming into their rear garden.

I don't know quite what you mean by 'menace' but there are certainly many many foxes in the area you mention... I live nearby and regularly see up to half a dozen foxes during the evening and night time.. Hubby and I were taking a stroll the other evening around 7pm and one popped out of a garden in front of us and then strolled along the pavement right in front of us... it wasn't the least bit bothered... I think the event that has prompted this post is to say the least very very unusual but I don't think its very likely to become a usual occurance I can only rememer one other instance of a fox biting someone and when you think how many people are bitten by dogs each year it may put things in perspective..

Let's keep this in perspective, there's been ONE recent news item in nearly 10 years, hardly equates to a 'menace' situation. There are estimated to be up to 17,000 Foxes inside the M25 so you would be pretty hard pressed to find a single garden anywhere in London that isn't visited by Foxes at night time. It's nothing new.

how many times have you flown on an aeroplane? What about the "menace" of crashing, a whole lot more common than a fox bite - get some perspective please!!!!!

there are more foxes living in urban areas than live in the countryside, so what. The animal "expert" on the Radio 4 this morning said there had been 2 instances of "fox" attacks in the last 20 years but one turned out to be a dog and the other was a cat!

The vast majority of foxes still live in the countryside.

I agree there are plenty of foxes in town, I like seeing town foxes as they are normally well fed, healthy looking and fairly non plussed when they see you.

I was driving down The Mall towards Buckingham Palace during the last snow, a fox casually walked into the road in a hundred feet in front of me, gave me a non chalant look and then carried on crossing the road. Seeing it in that setting was amazing.
  • My mum's garden (slightly overgrown) is inhabited by roughly 3 foxes. They tend to sit in the same spot all day, to the extent that the grass underneath has been flattened and is dying, and go about their business at night (unless they've been frightened, in which case they're active during the day). They're kept in check by the local !!!!! of cats (led by my Hercules).

    They're lovely looking animals.

I think you should stop reading scaremongering newspapers like the Daily Mail, and live in the real world where you understand that you're much more likely to be killed crossing the road than ever getting nipped by a fox!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Interesting statistic relating to risk assessment. More people are bitten every year by New Yorkers than by sharks. But which are we more afraid of?

OK, maybe "interesting" was a bit of an exaggeration.

It's not foxes you should be worried about, it's the wardrobe monster!
