I know its a bit early to even be thinking about the C word, I was thinking about Christmas in London but then for the price of the hotels I could go abroad.
I would like to be away again this year at Christmas time and was wondering where people have been, was thinking maximum 9 hour flight, sunny climate, was thinking about Dubai... has anyone been at winter time?
Any suggestions would be great!

We have spent one Christmas at a hotel in Luxor and one Christmas and New Year in Sri Lanka with friends inland followed by a small hotel on the coast. Both holidays were wonderful with perfect not-too-hot weather.
You may find some flights cheaper if you are prepared to fly on Christmas Day.0 -
I looked into Egypt last year, but I found the costs were very high comparatively when you go in the usual break, i.e. the school holidays.
I'd hate to fly on Christmas Day, but my boyfriend doesn't much like Christmas, so the plan was to escape it and if it's the same with you, that might be a good money saving plan!
I've been to Ireland for Christmas, which was lovely, as you could join in with the celebrations and the church service. We had friends who were living there, though, staying in a hotel without knowing any locals wouldn't really give you an insight into the local traditions. I love the idea that some countries have presents on different days.0 -
We always go away just after christmas usually flying out on 27 December for between 18 and 21 nights. We area off to Sri lanka this year and I booked the flights in March as I knew what I wanted and wnated to get the best price.
If booking for a package deal then it does not make too much difference when you book as the brochure price stays the same,
If you are prepared to DIY it then https://www.kayak.co.uk will help you get some ideas on flights. You can also look on the bbc website for average temperatures.
The best place to guarantee sun is Egypt Easyjet fly to Sharm el sheik and you can get to Morrocco quite cheaply too.0 -
We did Christmas in the Gambia 2 years ago. It was ok but I wouldn't return there. The weather was fab but unfortuntaley the 'bumsters' aka street boys out to get every penny they can from you wore thin very quickly to the point where we almost felt like not going out of the hotel due to the hassle factor. I know people who love it there but for us this was just a tiresome negative.0

A bit further than you want to travel, but I did Christmas in New Zealand last year
It was fab. I stayed with a friend and we had a big dinner on her mum's decking in glorious sunshine with lots of people and then went swimming at the beach later on. It was brilliant to be somewhere warm at that time of year.
I'd happily spend every Christmas abroad from now on (I'm not fussed on Xmas!) but it would depend on costs.
I'm lucky in that my current employer shuts for 7-10 days over Xmas and it's not classed as leave so there is scope to do it in future

I've done many trips to south florida at christmas and had great weather, a great time to get away.
First thing is to really sit down and work out a budget.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Many years ago(!) we took out daughters to Disneyworld Florida for Christmas.
We always used to do the traditional family Christmas, which frankly I found a bit repetitive...same old every year.
After having a Florida holiday which ran into December and seeing how the Americans seemed to start celebrating the holiday from Dec 1st, we decided to give it a go
It was our best Christmas ever.
Christmas Day in Magic Kingdom - shorts and t-shirt eating Turkey drumsticks, Boxing day building sandcastles on Daytona Beach. Our girls running around in summer outfits in late December.
Go for it.......0 -
Thanks everyone, some great ideas
how fab....
