What happens when I move house?
Options
In the process of selling our house. Just want to re-confirm I am on the right track.
1) On the day of the handover I should take the new owner and read all the meters.
2) I should then call the relevant companies and give them the meter readings and wait for my bill which I assume will be taken by DD as this is how I pay now
3) With my elec company I'm on a contract that goes into 2007. What happens with this contract once I move out?
When I move into my new property the same thing will probably be done. BUT the next part I'm confused about.
1) Do I then need to register with the existing supplier to keep supplying me? 2) If I don't then does this mean I will be cut off?
3) If I do then this will mean I won't get a chance to compare prices? Also, how do I compare prices in advance if I don't know how much I'll be using? For example, old house might have gas heating but new might have elec.
Anyone have a step by step Dummie proof guide?
Thanks in advance for you help :beer:

Hi,
I'll have a go.
Will there be a delay between moving out of your old property and into your new one? I've assumed that it will all happen on the same day.
Do you wish to keep your existing suppliers at your new address?
If so, then:
- Phone them a week or so before you move and ask them to supply you at your new address;
- Take final meter readings at your old property;
- Take starting meter readings at your new property;
- Phone the suppliers and give them your new readings. You'll be sent a final bill for your old property to your new address.
If not, then:
- Do a comparison and decide who you want to supply you at your new address, then contact them and tell them the date you're moving in.
- Take final meter readings at your old property and phone the existing suppliers, who will post a final bill to your new address (cancelling any contract in force at the time).
- On arrival at new address, take starting meter readings and phone the new supplier(s) with them.
I hope that's clear, but let me know if it isn't.Debt at highest: £6,290.72 (14.2.1999)

Thank you very much for your reply. It's very clear and understandable, even for me :jDummie0
