Vodafone upgrade "out of stock" - but it isn't!

So I've upgraded to an HTC Desire, directly with Vodafone, by phone. I was promised it would be available in 2-4 days, and now I've had an email saying it will "hopefully" be in stock in 7-10 days.

It's frustrating because I know that they have it in stock in the store where I am collecting from; the man in the store told me they have it. Is there anyway I can get them to let me have one of the store stock?

I realise they probably keep store stock separate from upgrade stock so that new customers can get the phone they want straight away, but it doesn't seem fair to treat existing customers like this.

I was going to switch to Orange via e2save (they have a good deal), but Voda also offered me a good deal to stay. Perhaps if I call Voda up to cancel the upgrade and say that it's because of the delay, maybe they will be able to do something for me?

Any experiences of this sort of situation?

All networks have different stock for different depts, upgrades, retentions, new customers.

Its a fact of life, but very annoying when you see it on the site but get told that the dept you're talking to hasn't got any. . .

Call up, they said they were out of stock to me jsut under a week ago and the guy phoned the warehouses and he found 2! i nabbed one so considering how difficult it was i bet the other is still there if you convince them to look.

For the store stock, just go in store, explain and they fill out a form (cant think what it is) with you on the phone getting details and they should be able to give you it but both the phone service and the store must agree.

The online store is the only truly separate stock for VF, everything else (store and phone) can be interchangeable both ways if you be persistent as they use the same warehouse stock.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.
