LOL, so funny that after two rubbish draws against the US and algeria and a scrappy win against the footballing superpower of slovenia, the English media started bigging up their team as world-beaters again. They've been crap from start to finish in this tournament. The degree of self-delusion necessary to believe that a team filled with third-rate players of the likes of Milner, Upson, Barry and Heskey could be real challengers is staggering. Other than Terry, Cole, Lampard, Gerard and Rooney, England had no players of sufficient quality to warrant a place in the germany, argentina or spanish B teams.
The only thing world-class about England is the way the level of media hype around them. Took less than 2 minutes today for the BBC commentator to slip in references to both 1966 and the Germany 1 England 5 result. This type of incessant arrogant harking on to the past is what makes non-English Brits so irritated with the lot of them.
Let's all laugh at England. 'Easy'! :rotfl::beer:poppy100 -

I shall ignore the rest.
Bold= I think 2 of our worst performers this world cup. Terry has been shocking, simple things like passing and reading the game seemed beyond him.0 -

Crap at this world cup, but no denying they are class players for their clubs when playing in the EPL or Chapion's League.
But the mark of a good player is being able to do it for club & country.
Rooney is great for club but lets be honest what championship has he been great in for england?
He seems to choke on the big stage. I have no idea why but you have to wonder if he is great without greatness around him.0 -

And !!!!!! was Rooney doing blocking one of the German shots on goal? I'm glad he did it, but isn't that what a back four is for?
Er...what England back 4?
They were terrible today0 -

That's my point. But they were worse than terrible. They should be ashamed of the performance they put in. No wonder James spent so much of the match swearing at them. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? The thing is, Scotland knows it's expectations.
Were crap, we struggle to compete against mediocre teams.
We inevitably get beat by better teams.
We know where we are.
England need to be more humble.
Your not world beaters anymore.
They played four games and were pretty dire in all of them.
Forget about 66 and be more respectful to your opponents.
If England went into each game thinking it will be tough and they need to play their best then they would probably do a lot better.
As it was, a draw against USA when the could have been beaten.
A draw against Algeria when they should have been beaten
Then a close 1-0 win over Slovenia with backs to the walls stuff at the end of the game and the media hyped it all round again to say !!!!!! like "Previous winners struggled in the group stages" and thinking "Germany, Argentina then Spain and were in the final"
Give teams the respect they deserve and you could do better.
If you think it's down to the Premeirship, great as it is with too many games. What makes you think you'll do any better in the future without a change the the league structure.
England out and it's no more than I expected.:wall:

Oh come on, I was only posting that in response to Hamish's wind up, you all know that.
However I agree completely that England needs to be more humble. One of the matches I enjoyed the most was seeing total tournament underdogs NZ playing their socks off and sending mighty cup-holders Italy to the bottom of their group. France and Italy both also need to do some major soul-searching. We have the talent, but where is the urge, the need to succeed for the country? It's something I used to enjoy when watching Beckham play. When you went to an England game that he was at (and yes I know he had some howlers too, but it was a long career), you would see his workload on the ball (as you would on TV), but his workload off the ball was also phenomenal. He played with heart. We need more of that. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
