Apologies if this is a dumb question given that a lot of players will play in Europe, but is there an implied advantage for those countries from the Southern Hemisphere? Weather is similar (ie winter), would presumably be playing in winter as per here, so games would fall when they are fresh: mid-season, not dog tired at the end of a long season. Just a thought.

It was argued that the african teams would benefit - but they haven't.

Most countries have been spending time at altitude, so that shouldn't be an issue.

European teams are just over-rated imo.

    Anyone like my topical smiley?

Cheers lj. I was actually thinking about S America (Chile, Paraguay, Uraguay as much as the big two) and Aus/NZ, particularly if climate similar and playing there.

I think Generali's arguement above is valid.

(NB not saying I necessarily agree, but it is valid).

I've said it before & I'll say it again. No team has really stood out in this WC. To be honest, neither has any player.
    .

I think Pancho Villa has made a decent effort at standing out.

Do you not have to sub out players who are no longer in the competition?

I have not got any but just noticed some still have them in their teams.

If I know you could do that I would have got a goal keeper who was not playing any more :)

I've still got two in my team. I wanted to wait a bit and hear the team news before I sub them. If I have a choice, I may also leave my subs a bit until I can pick more than two players from the teams I favour more (providing they are good looking of course ;)).

Well, er, clearly he shouldn't be allowed in with points, especially if he risks winning.

You'll note that I left most of my subs till the end, but please don't expect a last minute spurt up the table, I'm still picking on style over substance. My arms are tired holding the rest of you lot up.

If you were thinking that any transfer allowance not used up in Round 1, would carry over in Round 2 - then you're mistaken. (I didn't check to see whether you began making transfers towards the end of Round 1, so don't know for certain.)

I was mistaken about it too, expecting my balance to carry through to the next round, although I'd used up all but 6 transfers in Round 1, so maybe still in with a shout of still challenging for honours (would be happy with a top 10 finish.)

Round 2 and everyone is back to 15 transfer allowance again.

I used all my transfers in the first round dopester, but towards the end I could use a lot so that I could sub out players once they'd finished the rounds. It allowed me to jump up the table from 680,000 to about 350,000, though I'm in the 400ks currently. If I'd have thought it through more tactically though, I'd have not selected Drogba as it was clear as day that IC were going no further in the contest! I had four players not through to the final 16, but also wanted to switch Torres who isn't performing for me up front. The other mistake I made was starting the contest in a 4-4-2 configuration, which clearly isn't a good way to score points!

I still have two players to transfer out, but want to leave it a bit to see who is performing in the final 16 and really want to be able to leave enough transfers for when I can play 3 per team as I really want Maicon at the back, but don't want to drop my other Brazilians to do so.
