they are a terrible company.the details of wrong doing are too long to detail. i tried to leave but they just kept talking. i even said i have lost my job and need to leave to get them to go away. they said that they will stop my service as requested and i dont need a mac code as i dont have a new provider, just wait 14 days line will be clear go to anyone then. i contacted bt (plan to go there) they say,no,even so i need a mac code. i phoned AOL they say they cant give me a MAC code now as i cancelled my account.
i am in internet limbo.
AOL say i dont need a MAC code and refuse to give me one. they said my account finshed on friday 4th june, yet today when i phoned AOL they said my account will end in 14 days.
i think i may never get rid of AOL.
anyone know of a email address i can contact them on so i have proof of what i say. i have filled in the form on their site but i cant prove i did that. i want to email from my own account.

Never had a problem getting my MAC code. In fact, I even got them to refund the months payment they took 2 days after I transferred to a new provider.nonamewillclear wrote: »they are a terrible company.
A lot of companies do this to try and persuade you to stay. You just need to keep repeating EXACTLY what you want.nonamewillclear wrote:I tried to leave but they just kept talking.
Which is what they must have thought when you said you have lost your job - that you no longer required a broadband account at all - i.e. could not afford one due to your new circumstances.nonamewillclear wrote:I even said i have lost my job and need to leave to get them to go away. Ask them to confirm in writing - your AOL email will still be active via the web portal (AOL no longer close the emails when you leave.nonamewillclear wrote:AOL say i dont need a MAC code and refuse to give me one. Try their Complaints Procedure - this has a postal mail address. Send a letter recorded delivery.nonamewillclear wrote:Anyone know of a email address i can contact them on so i have proof of what i say. i have filled in the form on their site but i cant prove i did that. i want to email from my own account.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. Penmoron here!
If OP has cancelled their account with AOL then they won't issue a MAC as they will probably have already placed a cease order with BT.
The tag on the line should be removed a couple of weeks after the broadband goes down.
They will then be able to order a new service. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
OP, unfortunately you will now get a £25 cease charge and a gap in service since you didn't use a MAC to migrate. For your first post it appears that the a/c was already cancelled before a MAC was requested.
The rule here is never to tell your old ISP that you wish to cancel, simply request a MAC and let the new provider use that to cancel on your behalf.
A MAC request is not a cancellation, it is simply a 'option to cancel' that expires in 30 days if not used.
You should have just told AOL to give yo a MAC, not that you wanted to cancel. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Congratulations on leaving AOL though, even if it does cost you £25 you won't regret it!0

That depends on where he goes of course......Congratulations on leaving AOL though, even if it does cost you £25 you won't regret it!
Ominously he said "i contacted bt (plan to go there)" and they are quite capable of giving AOL a run for their money in the contest for UK's Worst ISP.0 -

I'm also trying to get a MAC code out of AOL.....not an easy job....I've been kept on hold for ages and passed around the phone line. Various links on website don't work. No joy yet, but it's making me more determined 1) to move 2) never go back and 3) tell as many people as possible not to join in the first place. I've been reasonably happy, but realise I've been paying over the odds for sometime....0

It normally takes 24-48 hours for a tag to clear off a line after a cease.0 -
They are obliged to supply a MAC within 5 working days. if they go beyond this time just call them and mention the magic word OFCOM.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Still no joy but I've now tried the magic five letter word you suggested and given them 5 days to come up with the code.... to be continued (if I've still got internet access!):)They are obliged to supply a MAC within 5 working days. if they go beyond this time just call them and mention the magic word OFCOM.0
