Car Hire with towbar

I wonder if any of you peeps can help.
My husband and I are travelling to America and Canada in September and we will be hiring a car. We would like to be able to tow a camper up to Canada but I cannot find any car hire companies where towing is an option. Have any of you hired a car in America that could tow and which hire company did you use? Cheers

Not sure any of the main stream car hire companies will have this as an option although they're big on towing in the US. There's also the insurance issue to be aware of. Suspect you'll have to search for a specialist hire company.0

They are big on towing in the US, but usually with large pickup trucks. Many of the Septics of my aquaintance seem to find the concept of towing anything with a family car most amusing. To the extent that they actually take photos of cars with tow hitches when they visit Europe.0

Tow bars are very rarely factory-installed options on cars; they are almost always after-manufacture additions. Rental car companies generally buy large fleets of standard spec cars, so you're chances of getting a car with a tow hook is almost next to nothing. You could try phoning around and booking a pick-up truck, but again rental agencies very rarely guarantee a specific make or model - the standard models they rent are unlikely to have been ordered with the towing packages. If you buy a brand new truck, the towing package is usually an optional extra.
Have you considered just renting a campervan? There are many firms who rent them - most obvious one to suggest for UK tourists is Canadian Affair.0
