Having two resident virus scanner loaded at the same time isn't usually a good idea.
Do these both have a printer installed?
You could try disabling the spooler service, start, run, services.msc, print spooler, double click and change to manual, as a test. It appears to be taking 40 seconds to load, unless it is malware.
if you right click on c:\windows\system32\spoolsv.exe properties version, does it say 5.1.2600.2696 (xpsp_sp2_gdr.050610-1519) It may be d:\.....
It is strange that these are all on d: is it a medion? Also strange is that the times don't add up or match the timestamp.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Thanx for your quick response.
NOD32 is my only virus scanner, Sygate is my PF and Norton utilities does not run a virus check, I use it for scandisk, Windoctor etc.
I have changed spooler service to manual as suggested but no change in boot up time (from initial 'boot' to 'log on').
When I right click on c:\windows\system32 etc, I can only find spool not spoolsv.exe so can't check the properties.
I have two hard drives installed in each machine so that's why you can see c & d listed in the bootlog. (Can't understand the time thing either??)
I will now close this one and open the other (only got one ethernet connection as of yet) and display the bootlog from that for comparison (as kindly suggested by Woo).
Back soon0 -
Compare the two boot logs and see where the time difference occurs.Happy chappy0

I've noticed that 'this' machine boots up (to log on) a good 30 sec faster than the other one.0 -
Windows defender appears to be installed on one and not the other - that is the biggest stand out for me..Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

I've only just installed Windows defender on the other machine as per a post on this site.
It hasn't made any difference to the start up but thanx for your comment..noted0 -
Go to start - run - type in msconfig - go to the tab marked startup and check out what programs star up when PC is switched on - when you install software some times programs are embedded into the startup - disable the ones that you can can start up manually as and when you need them - I recently did this for father in-laws PC and found that there were 15 programs starting up when PC was switched on - that didn't need to be - such as games, dictionary, isp (I always start mine when I need it) etc etc, that should help to speed up the startup of your PC0

i can't see any other major difference or anything to explain the boot up time difference, there are some other minor differences - such as ccleaner on the quicker one.
are these xp? if so wouldn't have expected to see wmiprvse.exe in the list.. but then that is on the quicker one anyway.
not much use i'm afraidEver stop to think and forget to start again?0 -

The only thing that's on both start ups is 'reboot'.
It's the time that it takes from boot up to the windows log on screen that's very different, everything else after that is fine.
Thanx for your suggestion0
