    I think it's a Santander thing.

Joe, Thanks for this, suspected as much.

I take on board completely others' comment on need to prove who and where you are for obvious reasons.

But feel the level and type of information required at Santandarus is going a bit over the top. Added to this the fact you are being enticed more and more to go in-branch to open things, time lost, lisitening to marketing hype etc etc and it all gets a bit much. And, although I have not experienced it yet, there are masses of comments on MSE regarding poor customer service too.....simple solution my side as usual, I will be voting with my feet as and when I need to.

Banks are obliged to verify WHO you are and WHERE you live. It's totally up to individual banks as to how they choose to implement it.

Well, sure, they can ask us to do hand stands and a barrel roll if they want. What we're discussing here is whether Santander's requirements are reasonable. They already know WHO I am and WHERE I live because, historically, they've checked me twice before via A & L and B & B accounts. Nothing has changed as regards my name, address, nominated account and ability to log into these accounts via secure procedures. So, why the need for an ID check on this occasion? Actually, the answer's clear from their policy statement saying that they require the check even in relation to existing customers. Implicitly, they'd rather put customers to the trouble of going through another check than carry out a security risk assessment based on their existing relationship with the customer. That says it all about the new regime! Joe
