Light wiring question

in In my home (includes DIY) MoneySaving
Stupid question of the year. I'm just about to replace the lampholder on my ceiling light. I have 2 wires to attach as per diagram.

However were I screw the wires to the lampholder, it doesn't say which wire to attach to which? Can I safely assume that it doesn't matter which wire goes where??

    I've just isolated the light and removed the fitting. There are 3 wires.
    Blue, Green and Brown. Now I have no idea what to fit. Help:)

    Just use the brown and the blue. Cut the green off short and do not use it.
    I can afford anything that I want.
    Just so long as I don't want much.

    Will it be okay just to cover the green (I'm assuming this is the earth) with electrical tape?

    Yes as long as it is all plastic and there is no metal that can be touched.
