I would say you definitely need a Snugsit, do a search on ebay or gltc or jojomamanbebe or similar sites. It really worked for us. I posted a link on the previous thread linked in post number 10 above.

Might splash out a couple of quid for one (heaven forfend) or botch one together from velcro and an old high chair cushion:eek:
Thanks for this - excellent suggestion.:T0 -

Littlie has a "seat" front facing car seat, with 4 straps (2 shoulder and 2 hip) which clip together in the middle. Even though I have tightened all the straps as far as I comfortably can, littlie can wriggle out - and did so whilst I was driving today.
Obviously I am discouraging this type of behaviour;) , but as it's a health and safety issue I don't want to rely on the sticker chart to prevent future escapades.
Is there anything I can use, other than duck tape and a rivet gun, to increase the car seat security? Is there a particular type of seat which is more escape proof.
Littlie is 2 and a half, so too big rear facing car seat, which worked really well.
Please help. I am a bit of a stickler for in-car safety, and today's episode worried me quite a bit.
I used to know someone who had the same problem anyway they drove down to the local police station and asked if they had a really big tall police officer who would tell him off for what he was doing and how dangerous it was. It worked a treat he never did it again, the child was actually invited down to the police station to have a look round and a play with the sirens incase it had caused any fear, which it hadn't.0 -
Could you try doing up the harness on the seat as usual and then putting on the harness part of "reigns" over the top? (the type of thing used to secure kids to highchairs). I know someone that used this effectively with their child. In the end the child realised there was no point in undoing the car seat harness because they couldn't go anywhere : they were still secured.0

Years ago one of mine discovered how to get loose, we tried bribery and threats and nothing worked, one day i heard the "click" as he undid the seat belt, slammed on the brakes and he bounced off the back of the seat in front. Scared the crap out of him and never had a problem afterwards. My better half near killed me for doing it though0

If she is wiggling out not undoing the buckle, then the seat if faulty, or you are not tightening it up enough. You should only be able to get one finger under the belts.
Are the straps looser when she wiggles out? Perhaps the locking mechanism on the straps is broken?"On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0 -
My DD (now age 5) went through this delightful phase, first discovered when she was about 18 months old, and we were doing 70mph down the M5, and this little hand taps me on the shoulder from the back seat! (No wonder I'm finding grey hairs!)
We tried lots of products and extra clips made for this purpose, we had her straps tightened so much that it left marks, yet still the little contorsionist would work her way free before we got the the end of the street. We asked Health visitors, local police, baby shops and halfords, but no one could find or recommend a product that could contain the little minx!
The one that briefly worked was putting her coat on back to front over the straps, the downside being 1. She overheated 2. It was waay too fiddly for us and 3. If we had to get her out in an emergency!
Then, when having a clearout, I found an old luggage strap. I plugged her in to the carseat as usual, then tied the strap round just one side of the shoulder strap, and wrapped it all round her body, so that it clipped near the door side of her carseat, in a good position for us to access it, but too far back for her ladyship to reach. Job done, she remained in the seat, and couldn't get out. All that money down the drain, when all along, a 50p luggage strap outfoxed her!
Thankfully now, she's in a plain booster seat, and completely anal the other way, even insisting her dolls have their seatbelts on!**This space is available to rent**0 -
I had this problem with my car seat, i just couldn't pull it tight enough, so ended up finding this:
