Sony TV Why So Big A Price Gap?

Hi guys, riddle me this.

I'm looking at two TV's on the John Lewis site. The Sony Bravia KDL32EX403U and Sony Bravia KDL37EX403U LCD both LCD both with Freeview HD built in and both sporting a five year guarantee.

Today I received an email from JL confirming that the selling price of the Sony Bravia KDL32EX403U, with trade in, came to £339, quite a decent price, I think. When I look at the price of the 37 inch model the price jumps to an amazing £599 for one size up a difference of £260. Is this normal or is there a reason?

The same television from M&S with a five year guarantee is coming in at £499.

Why such a difference in price ??

They probably just buyer more bulk of the smaller model for economies of scale.

Either that and/or theyre trying to push sales of the smaller model so make little margin, and try to offset it by having a higher price on a larger model hoping people go to see the small model, and some opt for the larger one.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Unless you intend to sit more than 10ft away, then the 32" model is all you need anyway.

    Sorry about the work situation.

    - 60" at 12' on HD / upscaled Plasma is a bit big, but 50" at 12' is beautiful.

    - don't bother with the URL's on optimum distance, they are all [ well behind the technology ] old hat !

The price of the 32" Sony at JL seems very good. A friend just bought this TV for £399 which included a £100 trade in rebate from Tesco, which was about the best he could find at the time. If JL are offering it to you for £339, they are including a £110 rebate (it is listed at £449, a competitive price anyway). The 37" model is listed at £649 so it seems they are only offering a £50 rebate for this model. The difference in base prices is £200 which seems reasonable.

Could only speculate as to why they offer a much bigger rebate on the smaller screen - maybe Sony just have more of them they need to shift??

I would think that small rooms and big TV's don't go hand in hand.

    Disagree

    I have a 42" and sit about 10 to 12 ft away but wish I had bought a 50"

I went to see a Panny 3D TV the other day and sat about 4ft away watching a 50" TV and WOW.

    Poor eyesight then :D

Seriously though bought a piece of cardboard this morning cut it to the shape of the Sony then pasted the template against my old television, still convinced the 32 inch in big enough.

The trouble now is getting to buy the dam television. I've tried to buy on two or three occasions from JL and their stock seem to disapear almost as soon as it arrives.

£349 for a 32 inch television with in built Freeview HD can't be bad
