car warranty, auto protect, customer protect

customer protect warranty run by autoprotect, out of cambridge rd, harlow essex, are unreasonable

they would not give authorisation number to my mechanic when he phoned them, used every excuse, and therefore I could not wait around to have car fixed. They said without authorisation no claim, they were rude and blamed ME for what they SAID mechanic told them or didnt tell them.

they are now saying they arent regulated by FSA

AVOID!!!!!!!!!

Where are you meant to take the car for warranty work? If that is detailed in your policy then you possibly don't have a leg to stand on.

But to be honest I'm not hugely surprised and can now add a notch in favour of not getting an extended warranty.

Hope you get it sorted out, good luck.

no they are just trying to get out of claims, nothing to do with workshop, isnt in policy
  • Just read your message and i can sympathise.
This company who say they are Administrators on behalf of the dealer have a lot of bad press on line. Search on Auto Protect and you enter a whole world of unhappy customers.
Read my blog on this site somewhere on page 14/15, we had to pay out of our own pockets for a new engine!!
Alas they are not governed by the FSA as this would have been really useful. Think its about time the Office of Fare Trading investigates this company. They will find ANY excuse to not pay out as in our case a recently fitted hose was sited as the `possible` cause and a relatively young engine ended up with coolant loss entering the engine, and that is not the case according to our own inspection as he sited gasket failure.
    They are a disgrace.
I have the BBC One Show interested, so contact them as well.... the more the better!!

  • Just to add to the debate, I'm heading for the small claims court with Auto Protect and so I'm not going to discuss my case but, I have been doing some background research on the company which may be of value to anyone else in the same position.

Auto protect seems top have emerged from the ashes after the collapse of Warrantee Holdings, a Ford owned company that was forced into bankruptcy following an internal audit that uncovered dubious practices. There also seems to be at least one director from the old company at the new one. There are two Autoprotects at the same address, Autoprotect MBI ltd are FSA registered and Autoprotect Administration Ltd. aren't.

Conveniently sidestepping FSA regulations, the admin side provide a pen pushing service, i.e. they claim that while they administer the warranty, the actual agreement is between you and the dealer and it's the dealer that therefore requires FSA authorisation. However, in the event of a claim, they hold absolute power over whether or not it gets paid out dumping any liability for failing in their FSA regulated duty to care for their customers on to the dealer who has no authority over their right to decide on the case. The most common complaint is that they'll claim a fault is wear and tear. This is the first trick they tried on me and my mechanic laughed at them. One claimant had an ignition coil fail and then a shock absorber and AP claimed that the ignition coil problem had caused the shock to fail.

Personally, I will never have any dealings with AP ever again. One of the key requirements of FSA registration is a duty to treat customers fairly and I suspect that this is why the admin company has been set up in the way it has. Should I win my small claims court case I plan to set up a website detailing there behaviour and inviting others to post their stories as a warning to others.

JKBubble, I will be writing to One Show now.
