Mothercare Toy Unsafe

Hi
I am hoping someone can give me some advice as to what they think my next step should be with this,
We bought our baby a count and stack toy from mothercare, when we got it out of the box we found the mirror that should be glued to one of the cubes had come off in the box which we considered quite dangerous as if it had come off while our baby was playing with it he would of put it straight in his mouth.
I returned the toy to mothercare but found the shop assistant quite unhelpful, we got our money back, but as the shop assistant wasnt helpful I decided to email mothercare and tell them what has happend.
They have eventually got back to me and it turns out we were sold an old version of the toy that they have now adapted as they found the mirror part unsafe!! They have offered me a replacement toy free of charge but I just feel they dont seem to be taking it seriously that we were sold a toy they knew was unsafe!!
Any body any ideas how I should proceed with this, should I just accept there offer of a new toy? I need to email them back and any responses you can offer would be appreciated!
Many thanks for reading and sorry for the very long post!!!

They clearly have taken the matter seriously because they have withdrawn the product from sale. It is unfortunate that an old one was left on the shelf, but mistakes happen. No harm was done, what more do you want?Gone ... or have I?0

Compo!
As above, i really dont see what the issue is, they have took it serious enough to revise it, take your freebie.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
There was more than one on the shelf and it was last year they say they had the problem so they should have all got recalled then. If I had left my baby to play with the toy he could have choked on the bit that came off, and to just be told you were sold an old one that we knew wasnt safe isnt the sort of response I expected from such a large company.0

what resolution would appease you OP?0

Im impressed! Your the first poster to have understood it (or been bothered to mention it)
Back to the OP though, how do you know the other items in the shelf were not the revised item? You dont so just move on and leave it be.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
I would like an explanation from them as to how we were sold a recalled product months after it was recalled and reassurance that they are going to put or have put something in place to stop this happening again. My baby is 6months old and is often in his playpen playing with his toys in the lounge whilst i am making a drink or go to the toilet, much as you try you cant watch kids every second of the day.0

I can give you the explanation - human error, mistakes happen.

We had a very similar problem with 2 different mothercare toys last year, one soft toy had a cable tie left inside the stuffing that started to work itself out, that presented a choking hazard and also could easily had blinded a baby. 2nd toy had two parts break off as the screws were too big for the screw holes which then left very sharp protruding screws exposed. When my other half took them back to the store the sales assistant and manager were downright rude - we took the items back home and I contacted their head office and got a resolution, which was both items refunded, and a good will payment of £25, I also made sure that trading standards got to see the offending toys before I sent them back to mothercare, they took quite a bit of interest in them and I know they took the matter further.
So it may well pay to contact your local TS, or you may have to go through consumer direct.0
