If you're really passionate about this - and I applaud you for it - then lobby the council to have a sign put up. As per 4743hudsonj, in my area there are signs the size of postcards attached to garden walls, it doesn't have to be on a metal pole.

Ones round my area (mostly terraced with small front walls) have a post with a small (any i mean tiny) disabled sign and/or a larger sign attached to the wall of the house noting the space.

The disabled bay of the bloke up the street from where I used to live was marked by a small sign.

Some obnoxious people just resent being expected to show consideration for others.

We had a similar situation with a neighbour. Due to parking being tight you can normally get a spot outside your house, but if you can't your looking at a 5 minute walk from the car.

When our neighbours wife fell termanally ill last year he asked all the neighbours if they could leave outside his house clear as they wanted to be able to park outside their house just in case of a problem and they had to get the hospital asap. We all understood and asked guests not to park there when they came out.

But the neighbour down the end had no interest and when they requested told them 'Ill park where I bloody well like'. And he did. BUT every time he saw the spot was empty he used to move his car from his space (all of 5 spaces along and outside the neighbour in questions house) up to the ill persons house. When another neighbour questioned why he wanted to park outside the ill neighbours house and not his own he laughed and said '!!!!es moody git off dont it'.

To this day, none of us have spoken to neighbours down the end as their treatment to a fellow neighbour was disgusting :( Unfortunately our neighbour lost her battle not long after and neighbours down the end then kicked up a stink that they weren't invited to the funeral when we all were....

    Sickening

That idiot might one day himself be disabled, what comes around.

If it was me I too would be angry and sickened by the selfish neighbour. Hope he gets his car clamped he deserves it

Ring the council and clarify the position and/or ask that they send a Traffic Warden round. It really bugs me that people park in disabled spaces at supermarkets etc.

Disabled bays at supermarkets have no legal standing and anyone can park in them without penalty.

Not saying it is the right thing to do mind you.

We have a disabled bay outside for my mum, but it has a sign. A BMW without blue badges parked there a few weeks ago and I phoned our council's traffic violations dept. They sent round a warden within half an hour on a bike and gave them a ticket.

    Job done. Nice.

So... because it doesnt have a sign and is just a disabled bay it is non enforceable...

Tbh it was more a case that I wanted to vent, peoples lack of caring and the desperation to be greedy that I find so disappointing
Not necessarily true, yes a disabled parking bay if on a time restriction does have to have a sign that complies with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 which requires a disabled bay to be accompanied by a sign to diagram 661A. But in saying that if there is no time restriction you need to find out if the bay has a TRO (Traffic Regulation Order), if it does they can be fined if not as is often the case with councils in England (Note: Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man require all bays to have a TRO) the bay is only advisory and as such there is little you can do.
A little foot note, do you know anyone with a nice long HGV who could park outside their house for a day or two.

If the disabled bay is enforceable it will have a Traffic Regulation Order and will be appropriately 'signed' with a post and sign. If it merely has 'DISABLED' in white stencil on the road then it has no TRO and unenforceable - advisory only and any ignorant g!t can prevent the disabled from parking in it without fear of a ticket.

Our LA once sent the contractors out to stick an advisory bay in front of a resident's house. She was nearly wetting herself when she rang us - they'd put DISBLED on the road! I've referred to them as disbled bays ever since.

When the bay is no longer required (sorry, poor old guy will have died), INSIST the LA burn off the markings (if necessary do it through your local Councillor for more weight). Don't let this ignoramous keep what he clearly considers HIS own unofficial private parking spot.
