I received another letter from Lowell yesterday basically saying because I've not contacted them to make appropriate steps to pay my debt they may instruct an agent to visit me at home.

I'm still waiting to hear from Barclaycard head office if they've been able to trace the debt.

I'm going to call in at the CAB tomorrow & see what they suggest.

Does anybody have a template letter that I can send to Lowells asking for proof of the debt & who it belongs to? I also believe I shouldn't sign the letter as they could cobble a credit agreement together.

Can you not enquire as to how the debt came about?. Assuming it is a debt and not an error on your account they aught to be able to provide you with dates and locations as to how that amount became a debt?.

They would probably not be able to tell you what was bought etc. But I cant see how they cant provide you with dates, locations and name\names of companies the debt arose from when the cc was used?.

Basically enquire for details of the debt as it may jog your memory if it's genuine and your debt.

    Donny,

Do you suggest contacting lowell or barclaycard to enquire?

Not to sure to be honest, probably Barclaycard. Though Barclaycard would refer you to the debt collectors (lowell). But at this stage you'd only be making an enquiery not an offer to settle the debt. So in such a case Barclaycard would be your best bet.

Besides, only the debt would be passed onto lowell. And I cant see under the DPA how or why such personal details relating to what accumilated the debt would also be passed onto lowell as that has nothing to do with the debt collectors.

Right dont worry about the threat to send an agent, they wont, Lowell are liars to a man. Even if someone calls just tell them to go away ,simples!

Secondly get over to the Consumer action Group forum http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/ for template letters etc

Dont worry about anything From lowell, they are just standard letters from thier Threat printing machine

Ive dealt with Lowells for years, they dont change and they are just as useless

    Thanks everybody for your replies.

By the sound of things it seems that Lowells are just bullies. I've also read on the internet that they are going bust! So maybe its just a ploy to get some money in from anybody to save their own neck!

I'm going to the CAB today so will see what they have to say.

I also checked my credit report/score again last night. On 6th June my score was 900 in 'good' last night it was 714 in 'poor' so I'm assuming this mysterious debt is affecting my credit score. I've worked bloody hard to get my score up over the past 4+ years & pay off as much debt as I can. If the debt doesn't belong to me is there anyway the default can be removed from my credit score/report?

I could do without this stress as I'm 6 months pregnant and also have a heart condition

If the debt is genuinely not yours, you can ask the lender to remove this default from your credit file.

i too have had dealings recently with lowell.

5 years ago i had to run away from where i was living because a nasty ex husband (who had just come out of prison for trying to kill us all) wouldnt leave us alone.

i moved in the august and in the september i ws made bankrupt by the VAT man.

after all this time (and not going on the electoral roll so ex cant find me) i am now getting letters from lowell, saying much as what has been said here, for a debt that was included in my bankruptcy.

it doesnt matter how many times i write and give them my bankruptcy number and the date and the court, they still keep writing and saying pay up or you're dead!!!

do they not read letters that get sent to them???

You need to dispel the myth that this "credit score number" means anything, its just a marketing ploy and means nothing...!!!!!!
