Sorry don't know what you're getting at by saying they only need to take the pedal back.

Presumably Tesco would require the rest of the bike in order to process a refund.

Unless Tesco's refunds policy has changed drastically in the last few days.

No really difficult is it, take one of the pedals you have bought and bike back to Tesco for a refund

but part of the lost pedal is inside the bit the pedal fixes onto

Buy a new pedal and pass it off as the original.

Now tamper with the pedal to make it look like it snapped off the bit that's stuck in the crankshaft.

Quite a dishonest streak you've got there isn't it?
