problem with Humax box

  • I checked the Humax support link tonight and didn't see the latest update on there as per the dtg.org website? Mind you, no surprise there as I've usually found out about updates via web forums.

Loved my 9200t when I bought it over 4 years ago and still works fine, had a few freezing issues earlier on which no longer exist now but I've realised connecting via scart to 1080p LCD results in crap quality so looking at getting the Fox T2 with HDMI port. I think I only bought it to pause live TV and record Top Gear as i've hardly watched any recorded stuff i've got on it, hehe.

    You surprised me Mr_Oink,

It's not manufacturing it's software, they are still the RR, their nearest real competitor [ Pana ] for twinies on quality & service costs 600 quid.

This issue is 6 weeks old and their engineers still haven't solved it.

"" hardware is not man enough to run the software "" I too thought it was the chipset GPU redundancy, but I've changed my mind on that one we will wait the outcome !

So who put the software on the box? Was it done at the time of manufacturing? Was it a supplied update that broke it? From other forums the issue appears to be way more than six weeks old so I don't tend to agree this is a new issue that will be fixed anytime soon. I'd be very happy for the owners if I'm wrong. It also appears that not everyone suffers from (or complains about) it.

As for the RR of Freeview, as it stands it won't do something your 15 quid Asda box *will* do - keep the lips in sync with the sound! I don't know about up selling to something costing £600 to resolve this when you can get this feature fully working on a supermarket throwaway unit ;-)

Watching any program/film with the lips out of sync seriously destroys enjoyment and Humax customers deserve to have this fixed quickly or offered a no quibble refund. It's sloppy and inexcusable.

No lip sync issues ever on my Humax

And peeps should now report their observations AFTER ensuring they have yesterday's update before making a song & dance of it.

The OP reports that after the update (which played last weekend) they still had the issue. Is there a slight difference in the 'guts' of some of these units meaning some people have the issue and some don't? Crux is, this is an expensive brick if people are suffering from the issue which is documented on a number of forums and has some history. They are quite entitled to be unhappy with it.

The update came in in Wednesday, not last weekend. If this is an out of warranty item then I would not expect much. Well worth doing, after checking the the software version really now is 23, is to set the machine to default settings, format the disk and retune. Not much to lose.

inside the Humax is a complete computer and we all know that many a thing is fixed by formatting & reinstalling, unpleasant a task though it is.

Apologies. The update was set for the 9th, not last weekend, and is still playing (http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/download_schedule.php). Let's hope the OP follows your advice and turns that brick back into something half useful. It's a lot of money for something that half works, so here is hoping :-)

If some kind soul could tell me exactly how to do this then I will get him to try it . We have no tv reception up here without sky or freesat , so we need to make the brick work :D

It's all done through the Menu button on the remote ...go to Installation and then look for "Manual Update" - if you are asked for a password, the default is 0000.

Software updates normally happen automatically overnight, but if you switch off at the mains that can't happen.

Once you have the latest software (v23) you should carry out a Default Reset - this will mean resetting any future recordings you have set , but you won't lose recordings already made.
