external aerial

I need to look into mobile phone external aeriels for an area with very poor reception.

How do the aeriels connect to mobile phone? The older phones have screw in aeriels so you only need some sort of adapter - which presumably are available or included in the aeriels package???

But what about modern phones with no obvious external aeriel?

I assume and this really is a guess, that they have a large coil in them for stronger reception, which is then either transmitted again or merely picked straight up by the standard aerial. tin foil also works apparently lol

What phone do you have? That would be a good place to start. On most of the phones that have the external ports have them located under the battery cover, while others (like one of my PDAs) have them accessible from the rear of the phone, without the need to take the back off.

Apparently they do work quite well - I have heard reports from people who have been able to move from no 'bars' of reception to 2-3 'bars'.

Have a look around on the Internet for a suitable aerial.
