Dress probably not going to fit

Options
I'm very disappointed with myself. I bought a dress of ebay which was too small inteding to lose weight to get it. ANyway after the death of my father I fell off the wagon somewhat and although I have lost some weight now, nowhere near enough!

SO here I am 4 weeks from the big day and stressed out of my mind. :( I am going to be on a very strict diet but I'm scared this won't be enough. I really don't want to buy another dress as I love this Maggie one. So, I'm wondering about alterations.

It's a two piece, with a top with a lace up back and a skirt with a zip. I am wondering if the top could be altered simply by inserting a bigger modesty panel-or would this just look awful?! The skirt, I'm not so sure about-being clueless about alterations I don't know how easy it is to let a skirt out ormake it bigger in some other way

Can anyone who has had a dress altered or any dressmakers give me any advice please?

Have you actually tried the dress on? You may be worrying about nothing.

That would be my first job- try it on and if it does fit, then no need for the
drastic weight loss plan (which I wouldn't recommend anyway!)

If it doesn't fit, then you have more of an idea about whereabouts it's a bit
squished, and that being the case, a dressmaker (Linda!!! are there any others???)
will be able to advise on what is the best way forward.

Go and try it on and let us know xx

Aw MD - don't be upset with yourself. You've had a stressful time!

How much weight do you think you need to lose? Do you have a gym nearby where you could sign up for a months free trial and then cancel it? If you say where you are maybe someone can find you one of these offers.

I've just started running on a treadmill to lose weight for holiday. Luckily I have it at home so can go on it anytime and everyday, but it works real fast. After only 5 runs of between 20 and 30 mins (not running all that time I hasten to add!) my tummy feels toned already. So if you can force yourself into it it would help as well as dieting.

And like Dizzie says, if you try the dress on it may not be as bad as you think! Incidentally if you buy the Mail on Sunday it has a beach body diet and exercise plan today which you can do at home. Every little helps (to quote a famous supermarket!!).

Good luck, keep posting, people will encourage you! x

Thanks for your support guys :)

I have tried it on and it is as bad as I think. I have no idea how much I would need to lose as it's going to be about inches really. I reckon at least an inch or two of my waist/stomach area which is a big ask. I plan to have a body wrap the night before the wedding but obviously cannot rely on that, need to be able to do the damn thing up before then lol.

I have been dieting using weight watchers and go to the gym regularly but think I will start doing more exercise at home-just found an exercise channel on sky which I can sky plus and do in the evenings maybe.

Definitely think it's still going to require some alterations to get me into it, so hoping Linda is around somewhere to offer advice too :)

I think Linda is busy this weekend - she will be around again tomorrow.

Tell us what is bad - or can you take a photo to show us so that we can get an idea of what needs doing?

Did the skirt fit? Did the top fit?

the skirt will only partially zip up-as in the edges of the waistband do not meet at the top-about 1-2 inches short

The top would lace up but with a much bigger gap in between the two sides of it than is meant to be! Therefore the modesty panel will not cover all of that gap

slimfast mate, it does exactly what it says on the tin - aimed at fast weight loss, not a slow decrease like weightwatchers. i lost 6lbs the first week i did it, its £5 for a weeks worth of breakfast and lunch so not pricey either if you still need to fork out for alterations. ive also started running 1 mile 3 times a week to help burn my fat off. its working for me so far....... there is only so much you can lose though. hope you manage to sort it out x

can you send me a piccy of you in it and then I can determine where you should go with it? linda@cldd.co.uk

Other daft thing is, have you put it on properly? Make sure your bust is sitting where it should be. You'd be surprised with some boob arrangement how much difference it will make.

Piccys are in the strictest of confidence. x

ok, depending on length, you could remove the waistband and have a false one inserted.

The 'gap' needs to be of a certain proportion. It is all down to where the side seams are to begin with. It's not as simple as making the lacing gap bigger.
As I said in my post, send over a piccy and let's go from there. x
