Receiving hb and moving, how easy is it to transfer to new property?

Hi,
I will have to move out the flat I'm renting soon as landlord is selling up. Will I have to put in a new claim for hb with the new address (and filling out loads of paperwork again) or could I just go to the housing office, let them know my new address and tenancy aggrement and they transfer the claim?

You have to put in a new claim i'm afraid which you won't be able to do until after you have moved as they will need to see your new tenancy agreement.

Unless your new property is owned by the same landlord, and then it can be pretty much switched over, but still calculations on the entitlement etc. need to be done.

Ive moved 5 times in the last 4 years & I know from personal experience that you do need to put in a new claim.

Sometimes they send someone round to look at the new property to check whether it is worth what the landlord is charging as well.

Yes, I believe I did say in the above post that they would likely need to do an assessment as to what the entitlements were. Were the various moves from one house to another owned by the same landlord? If not, then your post is neither here nor there is it? I know for a fact that between two councils a couple of years ago, that as the person was supposed to move from one property in one council to another property in another council, but owned by the same landlord, this is what I was told by the council they were supposed to move to. (it was a neighbour from hell, who had complained that he couldn't move as he couldn't be without housing benefits - so I called to confirm that he would not be without, so he could get moving :) )

The op never said anything about moving to a new property owned by the same landlord either.

He asked a question which I answered to the best of my knowledge on the subject & due to the fact that ive been through the same process 5 times in the last few years.

Each time ive moved they have stopped my current claim the day you inform them & have had to apply for a new claim once ive moved into the new propert & have my new tenancy agreement.

It usually takes a couple of weeks to get it sorted depending on how busy your local council is.

Nor did the OP mention that it wasn't owned by the same landlord.......it could be, it might not be - what is your problem with giving a little info that might be of use? geesh.....

Thanks for your replies. No it won't be the same landlord. So I will have to show my bank statements, payslips etc again? Only asking as they've just reassesed my claim and only had to do that last month.Would be so much easier if I could just show them the new tenancy agreement.I could understand if its a different council but its the same.

I moved on 31st March and just needed to fill in a change of circumstances form (moved 2 bed to 3 bed) and take in tenancy. Form was a few pages and my new calculation was done within 2 weeks so didn't even miss a payment. The borough is in Hertfordshire and i have a feeling that different Borough's have different policies.............
DFW since JAN 2009 - 2014 will be the year i finally clear debts :) Just to see which month :))))

I didn't think this was the case anymore, now with LHA? It doesn't matter what the rent is, you get what you get on LHA, not what the rental is on the house (and I know you cannot claim more that the rental is :D

    I have just moved.

I didn't need to send anyone anything, was all done on the telephone, although it was the same landlord.

OP can you not just ring HB and get the correct answers you need, take down names of people you speak to and on what date.
