I think it's a great policy of Wetherspoons and I wish that more pubs would have the same policy. I hate it when I go out for a quiet drink with the wife or friends and there's kids running about all over the place and jumping up on seats because their parents don't give a toss about other people and let their kids run riot.

I know not all parents and kids are like this but anything to put a stop to it is a good idea in my opinion.

I can understand your frustration - it does seem wrong that a responsible parent and child can't have a soft drink in a round where others are drinking alcohol, but I can also see that Wetherspoon's cheap beer prices attracts a certain type of patron. I presume if you were all drinking lemonade it would be different.

We only go in Spoonies either for a family meal or I go in at 9am with a friend for coffee. At 9am there will be at least 6 people drinking beer, cider etc. I don't doubt that if they could, there would be plenty of people who would have their kids in there as they get tanked up.

I also assume the thinking is that even someone who has 'only' had two pints shouldn't really be in charge of children. On the other hand, if you are determined to get sloshed you would pay the £3.50 for a kids' meal.

I think its a daft rule. 1st of all they werent all drinking, 2nd its stopping the majority just to look after the minority. If a family did go in and get sloshed with young kids they could stop serving them whenever they like. Its their pub they dont have to serve who they dont want to. And only making the child get a meal isnt stopping the parents from drinking is it.
The cheap drinks are normally on ales i thought, not sort of drink the "chavs" normally have.

Im not a big fan of weatherspoons anymore. Food is appalling and I dont find the staff that friendly near me.

Also the post about drinking at 9am. Remember it could have been a shift worker who wanted a pint or 2 before he goes home to bed

If its bothering you that much, complain, but personally i think it makes sense.

Saw a wonderful example of parenting the other day, the dad left his daughter outside whilst he went and spent time in the bookies...

So using the logic as above, should we say if you have a child you shouldnt be allowed to gamble?

One of my best memories is being on holiday at the Lakes with my Mam nd Dad and sitting in the garden of a pub one evening. I was only about 6 and felt very grown up. I don't think that there's anything wrong with this as long as it's not too often and of course the children know how to behave.
