Dialup Internet slow/often disconnecting

Recently Ive my dial-up internet to be a lot slower than normal and getting into certain cites has been taking ages - eg. MSE & Betfair. It looks promising but tends to be on the blank screen with the timer along bottom for much longer than usual. (Dialup's fine for me for what I need - when its fine. Its just last couple of days probs with connecting/tones etc).

Has it been raining in Durham lately? Rain sometimes affects the dial up speed.

Out of curiosity would you consider upgrading to broadband?

The first thing is who are you with?
We can probably get some idea of the service from knowing who your provider is.

It could possibly be noise on the line.
Lift the telephone off the hook, give the return switch a couple of quick flicks to get rid of the dial tone and then listen in the earpiece for any line noise. Any crackles or hiss?

What speed do you connect at?
If you hover the mouse over the two screen icons in the system tray, bottom right, what speed does it say you connect at? 33k possibly or 46k ?
