URGENT Info Needed re Change Over
Hi Gang
Very quick question I have just changed over to Equip EquiGas in week 1. But the have lifted the prices about 30% and they are no longer cheaper. I want to know can i cancel or should i just swap over again?
Wasnt sure if i could cancel within 30 days or somthing but it might be easier if i swap str8 away!

I believe you can leave as there is no tie in with Equigas or Equipower, but the process of switching to a new supplier will take at least 30 days. Plus the new supplier could put up their prices before you have a chance to change.
If you are in the pre-meter reading stage of a switchover I think you can cancel, but be prepared to have problems with your billing. You might get lucky, but its better to check that only one company is billing you. Getting something in writing would be good.
These links have been posted in other threads on Ebico, but are useful as they summerise the impact of the price increase:
http://energylinx.co.uk/news/2006/08/ebico_increase.html
and take a look at this thread, post 79 has some useful figures:

I am Equipower/Equigas customer who is staying putting because with my usage they are still the cheapest.0 -
justtoclarify wrote:With Equipower/Equigas you are on a capped tariff for the next 12 months, so bear that in mind before you change over.
Where did you get that information from?
I believe you are incorrect. After this latest price rise they have not given any such committment.
If you look at the website this is their message:
"This is only our second price review in over two and a half years and, whilst in the current energy price environment I can’t give a guarantee, I can assure you that we will only review prices again if absolutely necessary."0 -
Never heard of capped price from equipower/gas!
They have raised prices this much is true, but if you are considering changing please bear in mind that the alternative company may very well increase soon!
At least by staying put, it would be unlikely they would raise again in the next few months.0 -
A lot of people appear to have changed to Equipower without doing their research, Equipower is not about being the cheapest supplier but about being fair to all its customers.
Being a relatively low user, Gas 10100 Kwh/pa and Electricity 2010 KwH/pa, I fit the profile, and as I pay by dd I'm cross subsidising those on Prepayment meters which is fine by me.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Apologises, I was reading the news archive on the Ebico site and got my years confused, Ebico made the no increase promise in 2005 for pre 1/9/05 customers until 1/9/06. So I should have written that Equipower and Equigas tend to follow the field with their price increases rather than lead it (which I find preferable).0
