what i mean by all the time is a couple of times an hour every hour regardless of weather or not any water appliances are on or not (eg. taps, washing machine, heating). sorry, i dont understand the dead legs bit? what are they and do i need them?

Just read this bit, if there is an economy setting on the boiler switch it to that and report back if anything happens.

the instructions didnt mention anything about needing to be set. so for the next question, how do you set them?;)
would this be the cause of the racket, as the banging doesnt require the heating to be on to occur.

Probably not required then, and would only be noisey with the heating on.

    (Danfoss are one example
