lost wireless connection to laptop help needed please

Chances are it's a software problem, yeah. You say you plugged "it" into your desktop. Plugged what into your desktop, and how?

i plugged the laptop into the router and it is still showing there is no internet connection available

what make/model laptop ??

it may have a factory default partition that will do a full reset ( but lose all your data , pictures etc)
