We have two beefsteak tomato plants in pots in multipurpose compost from B&Q and their tops are very curly. I have not seen this before. The rest of the plant seems very healthy and they are just getting their first set of flowers. They seem to have stopped growing though and I thought beefsteak would have grown quite tall.

well all 13 of my tomato plants have gone very curly also looks like the peeper plants are doing the same, apart from this they all seem very healthy. The tomato plants stalks are about 3" thick and I have just seem they have small flowers on them and peppers plants have tiny peppers. Do hope they are going to be ok.

Someone posted the same question last week and the response was that this happens when it is hot - as it is at the moment.
Also, bees aren't needed to pollinate tomatoes - any bugs can do it, or wind. we had tomatoes in our flat, one year I dabbed them all with paintbrushes but the next year i didn't bother and we still had lots of fruit.

that is very very good to know

just had a look in the gh this morning and tomato plants are uncurling, must have been the heat as this morning is a little cooler.

  • My GD tom is also the same and on it's first lot of flowers, it was a little dry though so fed and watered it, may move it out the sun in case it gets too hot. Can't believe how big it's got.
