  • kerryhoney- I agree, if I had to choose between eating well for a week or eating bread and water but having my roots done, I'd go for the latter!

When you're miserable as it is the last thing you need is to look in the mirror and see four inch black roots!

If you're struggling to ask hairdresser then bring up the topic of money (easily done if she asks ifg youre going on holiday say your skint, if youre going out at weekend say youre skint) She will probably say 'Yeah I am too' and if she does say 'If you want some extra cash give me your number and you can do my hair at home' then get her to write it on your appointment card.

Or you could say 'Do you know if any of the stylists here do Mobile as well? Cos I'm a bit skint and trying to make cut backs'

    She'll probably say 'yeah me!'

Hi while I am sure you must be off to work now, just a thought. You keep saying you spend money because you feel down, try and find a significant but achievable goal to focus on and then once you have started making breakthroughs with the debt you will feel good about that.

On the claiming your money back from the bank thing, it's a bit of a long haul pain in the !!!!!!, but it does work!

Ive had a look at this again, and by my figures you are overspending by 220 per month.

Also you have not budgeted for things like, car repairs, parking, gifdts ie birthdays, Xmas, valentines etc.

Use martins budget planner to see what other things you have missed off :)

Overspending? Do you mean that I'm spending £220 too much on unnecessary items or I'm £220 over my £1334 per month budget? Eek - hope I can at least do my adding up right! As for car repairs - I have a 5 year warranty on my car so not anticipating any repairs. I refuse to pay for parking and would rather walk a bit further. I should do birthdays and xmas (no need to worry at Valentines though!) but think that £15 p.m would cover both....

I don't think you have totally had a lightbulb moment. I think you are flickering at the moment. And you are nearly there. But you are making excuses that you work shifts etc. And saying things like I can't live on £334 a month etc. There are plenty that do and still manage to stay with a budget.

It is going to have to be a slash and burn and everything has to go. That is the only way. Sorry to be blunt.

As has already been said here are few things to cut back back.

Mobile Phone £20 - go pay as you go and only for emergencies you have a land line
Car Ins £32- check on line to see if you can get it lower
Food £250- sorry a £100 is more than enough for 1 person. I spend about £100 a month on two adults and we eat well. And we eat things Salmon and tuna etc.
Hair £35 -you really spend that every month
Going out £70 - maybe trim about £20 off. Going out does not have to mean the pub. Why not get a few friends around and your provide the nibbles and they bring the booze and some DVD's
Clothes £250 - if you have been spending like that for months then you stop as you have more than enough clothes for the next few months at least. You might want to budget say £5 a month just for underwear etc as that does tend to wear out.

If you cut the clothes out totally and drop the food down to £100 a month then that is £350 a month you have saved. And they really are painless.

You can do this if you really want to.

    All the best.

    Yours

    Calley
