Mobiles.co.uk - Best Way to Return Goods ?
I ordered a mobile phone package from mobiles.co.uk in error. The phone has not yet been delivered (attempted delivery on Friday 4/6/10). I have tried e-mailing the mobiles.co.uk returns department twice asking for the returns procedure (returns number to be issued before sending goods back) but have not received a reply. I have also tried ringing but have not managed to get past the "on hold" music and speak to somone.
Apparently I have seven days from the first attempted delivery to return the phone. I am not hopeful mobiles.co.uk will respond in that time frame. Would it be wise to just ring up the courier (DHL) and tell them "return to sender" ? Would mobiles.co.uk have any legal cause for complaint ?

There a lots of mobiles.co.uk threads on here, but in general
(a) you will die of old age if you wait for them to answer a phone on email.
(b) a number of MSE members think that they stall in order to claim your 7/14 day period has ended
(c) If they have not delivered, then the contract has not been satisfied.
You will get some good advice by spending a bit of time using the search facility on this site and this sub-forum from previous posts, just in case those better informed are not able to respond today/tomorrow.
But you must communicate with them by email, letter (recorded if necessary and to the right address) remembering to keep copies, as well as advising the network in due course so that you have sufficient proof of your actions to cancel the contract within the stipulated timescales.
Do not fall for their "You must have a returns number" procedure as, again, you will wait and wait.
Next time, however, be more careful what you order as, however much mobiles.co.uk and other distance sellers may have dodgy returns procedures, people who "make mistakes" or "changed their minds" or "found a better deal" end up costing someone - invariably the dealer - money which they pass on one way or another to those who do take time to research their choices of phone and network in advance.0 -

Hi Plan,
Welcome to the forum.
As you have probably realised they don't respond to emails asking for returns instructions and is probably deliberate by them to get you over the time limit.
The problem with contacting DHL and asking them to return means you would lose control of the situation so it would be far better to allow it to be delivered and send it back by return registered post so you have a copy of the returns details.
My advice would be to send a recorded delivery letter instructing them to cancel the contract and that you will send it back if and when it is delivered. It's not just about the money0 -
