new iphone or dell streak
I have been waiting for the new iphone, but have just seen the dell streak and am now unsure which one i should get. would be using it mainly for the internet and music which is moving me toward the dell, but the new iphone could be something special and with the number of apps available it could keep me entertained for longer.
which would you get?

The dell isnt really a phone if im honest, too big etc. Its in-between the category of smartphone and Ipad.
You need to decide whether a 5" sceen would be too big. Have a look at the size of the sony x10 or htc hd2 as they are 4"(so is the iphone 4 i think?) then decide if thats big enough or if you could handle more.
Watched apples keynote speech on OS4, not all that impressed, i think the multitasking is a bit odd, dont think double clicking would be all that convenient but hey, just my opinion.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
I quite like the big screen (my wife runs an ebay business so hoping this will be better for accessing her account when we are out and about) and i can accept that i will look a bit of an idiot when i make a call. i worry that i may be dissapointed with the new i phone when it comes out, the competition seems to have caught up with apple.0

i have a iphone and do like it ... the point about the iphone is the intuitive interface ... my one year old girl managed to work it out in minutes (is that a good thing or not?!).
To be honest, I would wait for the new iphone which is due to be announced soon. The screen won't be as big as the streak I suspect ... but size isn't everything.
I have an Ipad and that is the perfect size for web surfing and reading books, comics, emails etc ... even the 5" screen will not be great for web-surfing.
Having said all of that, get down the shops and try out the streak as it is out now!0 -

yeh it think its a very nice phone if the leak was accurate, and OS4 looks polished, but theres little wow factor there and i think the likes of htc are already ahead (abroad anyways) with the sprint evo 4g. One phone like that here and thats the iphone not top dog again whereas before it took years for a phone to come out that unanimously beat the iphone (desire)
The dell looks cool, id rather have an ipad though as i kind of see myself using that a lot......Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
PS the competition is always catching up - it's the way of the world. I think the next iphone will be a "disappointment" as such in terms of screen-size and features - last year's upgrade was significant as the speed of the phone really really improved. I am on a 18 month contract so will be sitting out this upgrade anyway, but next year I will be ready to upgrade to the next iphone I am sure0

I like the ipad but dont know if i can justify spending that much, also its not a phone and although i try to not make many calls i would still need that. am going to look at the dell today, s hopefully that will help me make up my mind.0

As another poster has pointed out, it is best to go and see all the items in the flesh, they are all aimed at different markets, for web surfing you won't really beat a pc and keyboard, but you have to opt for the best compromise, the mobile websites for sites like banking , weather news etc make the phone ideal to place in your pocket and go.
The ipad is nice but don't think I will be substituting my netbook, they are as easy or difficult to carry around
I have not seen the dell streak in the flesh but don't think I will be substituting my handset for one either0 -
had a look at the streak today and although quite impressive, it was an absolute nightmare to type on (and dont think that this was just down to my chubby fingers) so i think i will wait and see what the new iphone is like.0

Hey Joop
With android OS you can change the keyboard easily, I played on it on friday and disliked that the number pad was always on screen but you can easily just download a larger keyboard without the numbers and just switch between like on the current iPhone.
The new iPhone will be announced on monday (evening for us in the UK) so wait until at least then before deciding. The guy i wa speaking to in the o2 store also advised me that i should wait a week or so because if the streak doesn't reach the expected sales figures then they'll most likely offer some new deal to entice customers.
Personally i think i'll be getting the Streak next week but i will wait to see just how good the new iPhone looks and whats new with it.0 -
Buy the Dell Streak. It really is pocket sized. It's a big phone, not an iPad, not a laptop.
Android 1.6 with the Dell skin is really easy to use, you get a free trial of TouchDown which gives you full Exchange sync (better than the iPhone activesync client).
Keyboard takes a bit of getting used to, but is better than the iPhone one (numbers on screen, easy to see where to type to get alternative items, no navigating through three keypresses to get standard punctuation).
Battery life is awesome and it's really slim - fits in the average trouser pocket and no issues walking around, climbing stairs or even sitting down.
Also fits nicely in suit jacket pockets.
I'm loving mine, can't wait to start writing Android apps.
Plus you don't have a EULA that discloses where you are and what you are surfing to the mightly Apple...and the signal is great no matter which way up you hold it...
