Repair My credit file with cards

in Credit cards
Ok about 10 years ago I had a great credit file,
but to cut a long story short 5 yrs ago I screwed up.. lost my current account, Over draft and had 3 defults slapped on me,
but one defult never got put on my file till 2 yrs later.
(I did manage to keep open a credit card but it was well over its limit)
So after a lot of hard work and really struggling to get my credit name back on track I got a capital one card just yesterday
but I want to make it as strong as I can.
So my question: would having more well run accounts improve my credit score?
ie
Would having 6 perfect run accounts over a yr have any pro's over having just 2 perfect run accounts.
or would my credit score remain the same...or even drop for the amount of credit I would have?

Not a lot of difference between 2 and 6 IMO in terms of building a positive payment history (do you have an overdraft and mobile contract or anything else reported on your credit report) - the important thing is to show that you're not missing any payments. Having too much available credit will only affect your ability to get further credit when you actually need it, so I'd be tempted to stick with the 2 you have and just build your positive payment history on them.
EDIT: By not having an account with all of the main card providers, it means that you can apply as a new customer when you actually want to take them up on an offer, rather than opening an account just for the sake of it."A child of five could understand this.
