Netto / Asda

where are u getting your "facts" from?
Maybe they know someone who works in that netto shop, or perhaps there's a flipping great notice in the window.they are actually doubling the number of staff in each store if the takeover goes ahead.... which it has not done so yet as it needs to be passed by the competition commission
Just because they have bought all the shops it doesn't mean they will be keeping all of them open. They could very easily close any that are sited near an asda store.
Take a look at this, it's from last year, but it does show a netto shop closing down to make way for an asda superstore. THey could easily do that again, buy up netto stores and if they can also get the shop next door they could close both of them and open a bigger asda store. But if a netto store is close to an asda, but not next door, so they can join the two, or if they can't also acquire the shop next door, then they could simple close the netto store down.

I think YOU shouldn't speculate until YOU know YOUR facts.
Do you know for sure that SUESMITH's local netto is NOT CLOSING? If you don't know for sure then you should not make rash statements.0 -

maybe the fact they've had A1 size notices in the window for the last few weeks telling us they're closing that branch and thanking us for our custom and telling us where our nearest store is? maybe the fact that they are selling all the stock off and not replenishing shelves? maybe because the staff who have checked me out have been saying they're worried because none of them have got jobs yet?
is that enough info for you - if you want more, my netto is located at clifton moore, york, next to homebargains and poundstretcher, and a link to our local newspaper article about it closing http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/business/news/8199021.Netto_supermarket_at_Clifton_Moor_to_close/'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -

It may not seem like a lot, but we all know how these things add up! The quality is never as bad as people say, I think that's all just idle gossip and yes "supermarket snobbery", propegated by the major supermarkets no doubt!
But don't you think that you might be seen as a bit of a snob through making a beeline for the brand name and not even considering the supermarket own brand ? I shop mostly in Asda because it's local. I cook everything from scratch and buy many of the ingredients from the Smart Price range. And last month my shopping bill for 3 (2 adults and a teenager) was £90 for the whole month

I'd say Netto is a gonner reading on the Netto website - "UK Netto stores expected to trade under an Asda fascia by Summer 2011." That would pretty much confirm that the days of Netto bargains are coming to an end.

My local Netto's closed down just before the Asda/Netto story came out, their reason was that although it was always busy in there, it was mostly people with basket size shopping and not trolley size so they mustn't have been taking enough money.
Shame really because it would've been good to have a small asda in the town centre.0 -
I quite agree , the competition commission should be sacked for allowing this takeover , asda is vastly more expensive , and their value brands that supposedly compete with netto on price are of poor quality.I believe they are going to double staff in the converted stores , and someone has to pay for this. Netto was the first low cost supermarket in my area about 21 years ago and I have used it a lot since then.
The alternatives
Lidl - good in a lot of areas and cheaper/hogher quality than tesco etc
aldi - dearest of the current 3 low cost supermarkets but generally cheaper than tesco etc , but I'm not a great fan , a combination of netto and lidl was the best
we will miss you0 -
my local netto has changed to a "U GO" store... yellow signage, same staff, same stock everything.. but no longer netto...
Prices had gone up - and i was overcharged 100% on an item and when i questioned it i was told "well thats what the till says so thats the price your gonna have to pay!" there was a huge queue behind me and i felt very embarrassed so just paid the extra and left - but wont be going back!0 -

It may sound daft, but I used to laugh at supermarket snobs who walk out of Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsbury's etc £100 poorer.... .
Dunno about that. Have a read of this report here regarding the exercise carried out by The Grocer magazine, when they extended their Grocer33 price check to include the likes of Netto;
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1094388/When-budget-Aldi-costs-pricey-Tesco-Asda.html
It dates back to 2008, but it did show that ASDA was the cheapest with a basket price of £19.10 compared to Tesco at £20.85. Netto however was £25.77 and Aldi a truly whopping £30.76 or 61% more than ASDA. So perhaps the 'supermarket snobs' walked out with a bit more in their pockets than you imagined.0 -

UGO is an Arthur Harris operation. As in Arthur Haldane Stuart Harris of Haldanes supermarkets fame (now residing in supermarket heaven).0
