Barclaycard Goldfish rewards

Just got a letter from barclaycard to say that they will effectively be halving the value of rewards points from August. Any points currently held can be cashed in at existing rates so make the most of them while you can.

I might just become unfaithful to my card - it's been my main credit card for years but halving my benefits is a bit much.

I too have received the letter about halving the amount of money for reward points. I phoned up straight away and cashed mine. I wont be using that card again (Grrrr). Does any one know of another one? I cant seem to find one as good.

I used to have a tesco card, i was thinking of using that one again. I would be interested if anyone can think of a better one.

Started to lose faith in the card when they axed my favourite stores from their list - I also lost out last time they cut the value of the points because I forgot the 'warning' letter and missed the deadline - wont make that mistake again - will be cashing in today.

Will probably switch all my spending to a cashback card - anyone know which is best at the moment?

Ive been doing a bit of research and the American express nectar looked a good on because if you spend £500 you get 5000 points and nectars good because you can always spend those easily. But I did read on a thread that american express wasnt all that. Can any one advise on that one???

According to the website the Amex Nectar Credit Card does look good:

(i) 5,000 Nectar bonus points when you spend £500 within the first 3 months of Cardmembership
(ii) 500 MorePoints for every aditional £500 spent on the credit card in any calendar month
(iii) 2 Nectar points for every full £1 spent at participating Nectar partners eg. Sainsbury's
(iv) 1 Nectar point for every full £1 spent elsewhere

If you apply for a Nectar Loyalty card aswell you have the potential to earn 4 Nectar points for every full £1 spent when shopping at a Nectar Partner.

I know I accrued a lot of points in a short space of time when I had this credit card and was able to spend the points at places like Argos. The drawback with this card is, like with any other Amex card, that not everywhere accepts Amex so you'll need a non-Amex credit card as a back-up.

When last I tried an Amex card so many everyday retailers just wouldn't take it.

Never really had a problem with this, Amex accepted in hotels, restaurants, petrol stations etc. Also carry a back up just in case but its usually ok. I've got Amex and Tesco 0% now so pretty well covered.

Just spent to the point where I can get another £10 John Lewis voucher.

I've gone for a Lloyds Airmiles card deal - you get Amex & an ordinary card. The advantage for me is that I bank with them and many card issuers can't get past the fact that I don't have income.. silly really.. I've been married forever and our combined income is quite large.

I understand that American express is not as readily used as say a MASTERCARD.....But we shall see ow it goes....
Really easy to set up, online application, informed me my application was fine, and got a card within 5 days -
Impressed so far!
