Yes but they can still get a npb strike and deserved in my book if they hit a BIN button and then don't pay as it costs the seller 40p a pop!
More than 40p, Linds. You've got your 10% (or 8 and a bit for businesses) FVF as well.

Sell something for £20 and the OP's just potentially wasted £2.50 for you.

Then of course, there's the time you'll actually take to relist it, the will-I-or-won't-I buyers (ie watchers) you may have had on the previous listing that are now gone...

It's why we've shifted to instant payment on our BIN listings. Still awaiting payment for 4 items though, people that have made offers then just left it.
Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

So are you saying that I should add an extra 40p onto every listing just incase somebody doesn't pay?

See, selective quoting works both ways...

Based on your reply here and your reply on the other thread you appear to take "factor in" to mean "make the buyer pay it". This is certainly not the what I take "factor in" to mean.

You seem very happy to entertain the idea of adding little costs here and there to the buyer to cover your own costs. Like I said in the other thread you simply won't compete with other sellers if your prices are inflated to "cover costs".

    What?!
I wasn't complaining about the fees I am perfectly able to factor in these costs but thanks for the advice :)
I don't like buyers who hit BINs then inform you they aren't paying, they are costing me money and deserve a NPB strike otherwise we'll just get buyers going round hitting BINs for the sake of it. At least if they buy something, try it on, return it for a refund as it doesn't fit etc I have had the chance of getting their repeated custom for dealing/processing a hassle free return.
When some numpty 'accidently' hits BIN then the confirm button, they should get a strike thats all i was saying.

I don't think anyone will disagree that someone pressing BIN, confirm and then say it was an accident should get a NPB strike.

You could offer to pay for the item less shipping and the seller keep it.
Seems a waste of everyone's time and effort for the seller to post it out to you if you don't want it.
But you've agreed to pay for the goods, so I don't think there's much you can do about that.

Obviously you can make an offer less than I've suggested above, but up to the seller at the end of the day.

In the early days of eBay, we sold an old child's guitar. Collection only. Someone from miles away bid on it and won the auction. Asked how much shipping was. In the end, he paid for the guitar but we kept it. (Took it to a boot sale, iirc.)

Nothing you can do? If it's a Business seller you can invoke the DSR 7 day rule as said in this thread earlier. eBay T&C's are written in a way to deter people from pressing buy with no intention of paying. Due to that, it makes some people believe that there is nothing you can do once you press confirm. eBay T&C's do not supercede consumer law, and eBay business sellers must operate under consumer law just like any other B2C business.

Thats very true but to be honest business or private seller if the op doesn't pay either can open a NPB so you'll get a strike regardless.

op you can either take the strike for not paying, pay and return item tracked for a refund if biz seller, or pay and sell on yourself.
unless of course the seller gets back to you and agrees to cancel.

I wouldn't worry to much about a single NPB strike as I'm sure OP doesn't make a habbit of cancelling. My advice would be to risk taking the strike, after all there is no telling whether or not the seller will even go down that route, and if they do then one NPB strike won't do any harm. OP will need to incur two strikes before a seller can automatically block him from bidding.
