How come other sellers can charge more postage than me?

I've listed a cd, and when I put it on it would only let me put £1 postage saying that was the maximum allowed for that category.
However I've just done a check on others selling the identical cd, and they've got £3 postage, still uk based not being sent from abroad.
How have they managed to get round this?

Either they have out it in the wrong category or it is yet another ebay glitch.

CDs are limited to £1 postage, which is enough for 2nd class postage plus decent packaing.

There was a glitch a few days ago that pretty much wiped out the P+P caps for media categories (including books apparently). Basically, just because it says the cap is (for example) £1, your listing could still go live with a P+P cost of £2. You'll probably get your listing pulled if it's reported though.

There's a thread here for those with access to the Powerseller forums.

Roughly translated, he/she is not familiar with the media category into which CD sales fall so didn't know the exact postage limitations but assumed that possibly they could be 'got around' by using the term 'other courier' in the listing which allows a high postage rate to be given. :)

Yep but it has basically meant the price of CD's is now higher as 99p CD plus £1 for postage is almost a loss by the time you take your fees off!
I know people used to hide it in postage cost mind you, just means ebay gets more from us as we have to list with higher starting price and hence fees lol! (Private sellers I mean!).

I did not say I disagreed with it (so no need for the irony!), I just stated that is what is happening! Some people do still start CD's at 99p if it is a sought after one, in the hope the price will rise.

    No really FVF = 10p
Paypal fee = 26p (if your not using a micro account when its about 15p)
    Listing fee = 0p
Postage = 76p (second class most CDs will go as this)
    Jiffy bag = 10p

Total = £1.22 so thats 77p profit nay exactly a loss

Jiffy bag = 10p .....cheapest I have got is plastic bag 10p, jiffy wrap 5p.....but again lets not argue over 5p!

Yes I have done the sums lol.
What I meant was a reasonble loss on the selling price (about 20% ish), I don't know when business sellers sell how much of the actual selling price do they get ? ....suppose I could work it out but cannot be bothered lol!
......retires sheepishly away as feeling very victimised today....you are all picking on me boo hoo lol lol x
(please do NOT take this seriously, appreciate all the help you regulars have given me :D)
ETA For the record- where do people list box set CD/DVD's....and if in correct category do you select other courier so to make postage more realistic ? Or is that classified info ? ;).
