edit:hammyman - if the car felt down on power it wouldn't move lol, its always been dead slow. what is redex?
The car has on a few occasions sounded funny when it starts - it starts straight away, but where a normal car would have a nice turn over sound, this one chugs a bit then goes. My husband started it yesterday for the first time in 2 days and it was the same then. I have read lots of reviews and other people seem to mention this problem too....

I don't know whether to stick it out or chop it back in now while it is still worth what I paid for it and get something better....and then I need to choose something all over again!! (my husband is about to walk out lol)

If you're driving at 30MPH/40MPH in 5th gear, I can understand why you think it has no go. You're running along at around 1000-1500RPM when the engine generates most power around 5000 RPM with the powerband (where it starts to generate more power) starting around 2500RPM.

Redex - an additive that cleans out the fuel system, removes carbon deposits from plugs and injectors and basically keeps the whole thing clean.

Lol, i know it won't have any go at low revs in a high gear, do many cars?!.....It doesn't have any go- i dare pull out unless i have about a 2 mile gap its that slow (ok maybe a slight exaggeration). It gets to about 15mph redlining it in first, it sounds as if it is gona blow up past 3500 rpm. Even driving it in 3rd today, there was no instant kick there when i put my foot down to speed up in the 40 zone. I really can't see how driving it in 3rd @ 40mph is gona help my fuel consumption when it sounds like a !!!!!!! moped but we'll see. When I am in 4th gear, I am at about 2500 revs..
The Yaris i had as a courtesy car was only a small 1ltr, it sounded like a lawnmower and wasn't great top end....but it was nippy for out the junctions and round town...my car doesn't even seem to have that!

Not sure after only 1400 miles my car should need redex either...?

leave the redex alone a 1400 mile brand new motor will not need it,that stuff is best save for high milers.
keeping revs slightly higher can improve the mpg for the reasons previously mentioned, just give it a couple of tank fulls and work it out again.

I get bad MPG in my 1.3 Ford Ka. I always try to get into 5th doing 30mph. I generally get about 200 miles out of 40litre tank...which isnt very good at all.

in 5th going up hill at 30 mph will really be labouring the engine using too much fuel. being in the right gear at the right time with just enough pressure on the accelerator and reading the road properly will increase reduce your consumption.

for various reasons ive been testing the economy of my transit van, when i drove it without care for fuel i was averaging 30 mpg across a tank. now with more care over gear selection and preparing for the next thing to happen much earlier and being lighter on the right foot im now getting 40 mpg across a full tank. and could get more im sure.

So general rule to improve efficiency.... stay in 3rd when doing 30mph?
  • 1.Dont bother with redex-a 1400 mile car doesnt need it.
2.Corsas are heavy cars (relatively) and with a 1.0 will never give great mpg-just to much work for it.
3.If you take it back they'll probably just tell you it hasnt loosened up yet and seeing as its only done 1400 miles their probably right, give it some time and you'll probably see a difference.
Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.

Got a huge Buzz out of it.

In view of what you've said, take it back, you are never going to be happy with it's performance let alone it's economy.:)

It does beg the question though of why you bought it in the 1st place?, surely you test drove it/one before parting with the hard earned ;);)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
