Regal Credit letters

Hi
Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong forum but I wasnt too sure where I should ask.
About 3 weeks ago I received a very vague letter from Regal Credit Consultants which wasn't addressed to me, it was to my address but it said 'The Occupier'. All the letter said was 'please contact a Mrs King regarding a very important matter' with a reference number and telephone number.
The letter looked just like a photo copy and I was a bit suspicious so I googled and searched on here and read a few posts about people receiving the same letter and were advised just to ignore it because Regal Credit were just fishing to find someone about a debt. So I kept the letter but just ignored it.
Today however I have received another letter, this time it was addressed to my name and the letter said in big letters 'notice' and says that they demand a payment for £732 for their client which is Northern Rock and if I dont pay they will take further action ect etc.
I dont have any, and never had any loans, cards, or any other kind of debt with Northern Rock, All I have with Northern Rock is a savings account.
Im just wondering should I ignore this letter or write to them saying its got nothing to do with me? Im not going to phone them because it says on the letter its 10p per minute to call their number, and I dont see why I should be charged 10p per minute for them sending letters like that which can give people a scare. Is it even legal what they have done by sending out a letter demanding money even if they are not sure its the right person?
thanks

Ignore it
They will send the same letter to many with the same name in the same town. If you contact them they may start to harass you, so ignore them. The onus is on them to prove you owe a debt not the other way round.Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

Today we received a similar letter - correctly addressed, but to "The Occupier" rather than our name. We are asked to contact Mrs King on 0800 088 7242 regarding a very important matter.
We are unfortunate enough to have had dealings with Regal Credit in the past, and we currently have an agreement to repay a debt we had with NatWest to them. They continually hassle us to increase our payments, and on one occaision when I telephoned them, they denied that we had been making any payments to them at all. A Nasty bunch, as as been said.
Receving this letter obviously made me feel very bad at more trouble from these idiots, but once I calmed down I noticed a number of things were unusual about ths letter.
Firstly, the colour of the letter head was not red, but a kind of black/green, and a number of things were missing from the normal header - the reference number, while similar to our reference numbers, was not the same, and some of the small writing at the bottom of the letter was slightly blurred. And of course, its not adressed to us - Regal Credit know we live here.
I now think that it is one of 3 things:
They want to fool us into phoning them - I now get our debt advisor at CAB to contact them - they make me so frustrated when I talk to them.
They are trying to contact someone who used to live here (we're in council accomodation and moved in 2 years ago)
Or, and this is more worrying - this is a SCAM, and someone is trying to pretend to be Regal Credit and get money out of people. The telephone number is different - an 0800 number instead of their 0871 number, for instance.0 -

Thats just like my 2 letters I got, with the colour of the letter head on the first one that was addressed to the 'occupier' and the phone numbers were different on the 2 letters, the same as you describe.
But as I have no dealings with them, dont really know who they are and I dont owe them or as they are saying 'Northern Rock' any money, they are just going to be ignored by me.Comping again0 -
Well I got another letter the other day this time it says 'Final Notice' in big red letters. They are starting to annoy me now.Comping again0

Now today we had something interesting - another letter from Regal Credit today, using the same account number as that in the letter to "The Occupier", but addressed to me personally. This time in Red, and looking like one fo their "normal" letters.
The thing is they now say I owe NatWest £8900 and are demanding immediate payment. Now, as it happens, I do owe money to Regal Credit, and it is relating to a debt to NatWest - the the outstanding balance isnt this figure - in fact this is the figure it was when I first came to an arrangement with NatWest a couple of years ago before they transferred the debt to Regal Credit.
They did this before, where regal suddenly "created" an extra debt to NatWest, using an out of date balance. That was eventually cleared up by our debt advisor at CAB, but this is very very distressing - why do they do this? If they are unable to keep track of money and debts in this way, it gives you very little confidence in sending them money, only for them to turn round after you've given them thousands of pounds to say "we dont have a record of that, you still owe us thousands".0 -
Well my last letter I received it said they will be sending a field collector round to arrange payment if I dont pay. They included an envelope this time so I'm thinking of sending a letter back to tell them to stop sending the letters as its got nothing to do with me. Or they can go ahead and send a field collector round because then they can see they are wasting their time.Comping again0

Well I did send them a letter to explain they have the wrong person and its not my debt but it seems to have fallen on deaf ears because today I received another letter which said "LEGAL NOTICE" and that if I dont pay they are going to apply for a Warrent of Execution which includes instructing the County Court Bailiff to enter my property and take goods to the value etc etc etc!
They are seriously peeing me off now! Can I complain to someone? because Im sure this is illegal them sending threatning letters like this to someone (me) who the debt has nothing to do with. I need them to realise its not me they want!Comping again0 -
I'm not sure if they come under the Banking Ombudsman or not. Check the letter to see which agency they are accredited with and write to them0

Try posting on the Debt Free Wannabe board, someone on there may have more experience of this firm and how best to deal with them0
