What looks like a tadpole but isn't?
I've got a small container water feature with just a water lily and an oxygenator in.
I've just spotted some very small wriggly things that I don't think are tadpoles, but I have no idea what they could be. The bodies look a bit see through and segmented, with a little prong type thing on the end of the tail.
(Not very specific I know, but they're too small to take piccy's at the moment.)

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

They sound more insect-related to me. Mosquito larvae? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0

Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

Well I haven't seen any spawn of any sort. And the mozzies look possible. Buggar - I was hoping for something nice, not something that's going to eat me.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Hopefully this link may help you.

We have a pond & I love the variety of things that turn up in the water.
I would say "not newts" as they don't have the prong thing on their tail. We are lucky to have lots of newts in our pond, which we love spotting when they come to the surface or sit on the higher ledges.0 -
That is a great site - thanks.
However it has also given me the heebie jeebies and I'm not going near my pond ever again! :rotfl:All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

probably the mosquito larvae....they appear in any bit of stagnant water....as soon as you tap the container the go crazy wriggling about..they have a 'pin' head with a whippy body and a little forked end piece....0

Ok, how do I get rid of the little darlings? I do keep topping the water up with what I thought was fresh rainwater from my water butt - could they have come from there? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

If it's open to the air, then yes.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
