Hi all,I've been on a prepay meter for years now.
I recently wrote to BG about getting a statement for my electricity but they say they no longer provide prepay customers with any kind of paper work.??? can they do this? i would of thought that even as a prepay customer iam entitled to some sort of statement showing the charges and credits ive paid them, they have refused to supply me with anything saying i should of kept my till receipts.

The good news is that British Gas is reinstating annual statements later this year! If you don't mind me asking, is there a specific reason for requesting the statement? The bit about keeping reciepts is partially true, in the same way that you wouldn't really expect a statement for a pre-pay mobile phone but I do appreciate that there are could be other reasons for wanting one.

Hi, your right about the payg mobile phones however at least with my mobile i can log into my account and view all transactions and calls.
The reason for the request is that every previous year i have had a large credit balance often over £100 and its always been paid back to me.
Also recently the electric credit isn't lasting as long as it use to 6 months ago so i was curious as to the reason behind this is it the charges or tariff or some other problem.?

Also its the principle ive paid them for a service and i expect a record of this from them.

You are dead right with this. If they get away with refusing to provide statements, I cannot see how anyone could every be certain that they were not being ripped off.

I am confused as to how you have credit on your prepayment meter. This would usually be if the tariff was incorrect on the meter or you had added this extra money onto the meter for future consumption.

The reason the statements were originally stopped was to stop the confusion of either people calling re large debts on the statement ( due to Token meters) or because of false credits which normally happens when a bill is produced to a reading but unbilled payments land on top of this making it look like an account has a credit.

It will be interesting to see what information comes out when they start up again.

The meter is 'read' every time you vend and this is sent to your supplier. They only need to inspect every 2 years from the date you joined a supplier, so if you change supplier every 18 months it is never inspected. Rules are different for gas.

I think BG, like most suppliers, only offer 1 tariff for their PPM customers.

You can see details of that tariff on their website.

BG offer a few tariffs on the PP meters but all details will be on the website. You can check screen I and if 2 rate also screen k to see what rates are being charged on your meter and compare the 2. The other option is to call BG.

I was previously warned about the moles from BG on this forum and since my previous post I've now been shafted on my gas bill,
Its not a coincidence an email arrived from BG the day after i posted on here.
They have done nothing about supplying me with an electric statement even though as far as i am concerned its a requirement.
So thanks BG...now I'm making arrangement's to change both services to a company that's a little more willing to help.

    Hi Mr in2deep,

I suppose with an unusual surname like yours it was easy for the moles from BG on this forum to work out who you are from their 18 million accounts and send you an email;)

I am devious - Cardew isn't really my surname so they can't trace me!
