Hi,
I came across this thread after a lot of searching around for home contents insurance for my friend who was burgled six weeks ago. He had no home insurance and is finding it very difficult to get cover. Does anyone have any suggestions or names of insurance companies that provide cover after burglary? He does not require building insurance as he is a tenant.
Thank you,0 -
try contacting the British Insurance Brokers association

Thank you,
This is bizarre ! If you have insurance and make a claim you can renew or move to another insurer ?
If you don't have cover and therefore don't make a claim then no one will insure you after that !
I suppose it could be that a house which has been burgled is much more likely to be burgled again because the original burglar knows that the house will have nice new ones of whatever he nicked the first time !0 -
I was burgled (without insurance, and gladly without too - I don't believe in giving my earnings to the man!), but 6 months later I was getting quotes for contents cover, no problem. I'm now with Nationwide (after Quidco, it was £70 for the year).
My burglary was only to the value of £200 - maybe that's the difference..?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Hi,
Thanks everyone for advise and guidance. Badger_Lady to my knowledge none of the insurance companies asked about value of loss. They simply ask if you have made a claim/suffered a loss within the last five years. My friend told me he exhausted all avenues and is fed up with the same response.0 -
subsidence is relevant for both buildings and contents - in theory it could have an impact on both. Regarding the claim in December 2004 - this would not need to be disclosed with most insurers as it is more than 3 years ago0

that is a massiev shock - after a burglary your are nearly 4 times more likely to be burgled than someone who has not been burgled - most insurers wont touch this for sometime after (often several years if not insured)0 -

My circumstances were a bit special - the "burglar" was actually my cleaner
He was very quickly prosecuted.
Of course, the insurance companies never ask me that!
